New Orleans
Anyone have any must haves or go to places? This is our first trip there so I really don't know much.
Going for a couple of days in the Summer. (Yes, I know it's hot but we don't mind it.)
Also, looking for one upscale/fine dining experience to celebrate dh's birthday.
Thanks in advance!

Re: New Orleans
I loved New Orleans- one of my favorite trips of all time. We stayed in the Marigny-Bywater district in a rented house and were able to walk to the French Quarter. We did an airboat tour which was amazing and a must do IMO. Otherwise, just wandering down Frenchmen street at night and hearing the music, checking out the art, the food! It was incredible. Cafe Du Monde was really overrated. Luckily, we didn't wait long but there's always a HUGE line and honestly not worth it. We didn't really do any upscale dining so no suggestion there, but enjoy it! You're gonna have a blast.

No problem! We also hit Jean LaFitte's... it's one of the oldest bars in the country. Of course it's modernized now but it was a cool spot to check out.

Re: New Orleans
I didn't go when I was there because I was with work but everyone raves about Commander's Palace for an upscale dining experience.
Emeril's restaurant, NOLA, was great- but more casual.
All the food is great- not one bad meal ever.

GW Fins was great for dinner - I would highly recommend it. Mr. B's Bistro was also very good.
We stumbled upon this little restaurant called Eat New Orleans one day when looking for a place to have lunch - it was really, really good!
I would also recommend the Pearl River Eco-Tours swamp tour - the swamp boats can get into a lot o more of the "back bayou" areas than the air-boats can.
Do a tour of St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 - I thought it was really interesting (and it's not creepy!)
Walk through the Garden District (you can download a walking tour to do on your own)
WWII Museum was really good, if you're into that
Beingets at Cafe du Mond are a "must" do

Wow. All of this exactly! Was super impressed by GW Fins. Only thing I have to add was that I took a ghost tour at night (walking tour), which was a blast.
It’s a really walkable area. I go for conferences because you can go grab a great lunch and make it back in reasonable time, and hotel options are plentiful and decent. Except the Sheraton. Stay away from that hotel.

Forgot to include:
Frenchman Street for great jazz clubs - Snug Harbor was a good one
And, have drink at the Carousel Bar inside the Hotel Monteleone - just something fun to see
