Playroom
Making a playroom in a room in the basement. Have industrial carpet in there now. Would you put laminate or carpeting? Would one make it warmer than the other? Anyone put down any grey flooring recently?

Re: Playroom
As someone who just recently had a flood in their basement and had to rip everything up, I strongly recommend waterproof flooring. We are installing a luxury vinyl laminate. It's interlocking and actually sits on top of your existing floor (not glued down). If you ever flood, you can easily clean it up without having to replace everything (like we did with our carpet!). It comes in a lot of colors - we're doing a gray/wood look. It's also not expensive! We will put an area rug on top of it.
If you want a recommendation to check out floors, go to the new Floor and Decor store in Farmingdale. It was amazing and they have everything from what I described above to ceramic, porcelain, etc.

Re: Playroom
We did a plush carpeting because
a) it gets cold down in the basement b) my kids sit and play on the floor alot c) it's super cozy on the feet
BUT, my burner / water heat is 20+ feet away from my playroom. The chance of a leak is very minimal.

Water travels 20+ feet. It travels to wherever your lowest part of the house is. We just had a leak on the opposite side of our basement from where the water landed. It traveled far!

Last night the toilet was running in my master bath. Caused a flood in my basement. It affected 4 of the 5 rooms in my basement - the laundry, the mechanical room, the pantry and the man cave. Water everywhere. What a mess. We have carpet in the man cave and my office. We now have the dehumidifier running with the fan to dry everything out.
