Cookie as party favor?
If we give a custom character cookie as a favor for DD’s birthday party, do we need to give something with it?

Cookie as party favor?
No! A cookie is perfect. I would much rather a cookie that disappears than having more stuff around.

Cookie as party favor?
I just did chocolate “2’s” with a chocolate pretzel for my twins! I love the idea of a cookie. I hate party favor junk

Custom cookies are expensive! You're totally fine with just that.

Cookie as party favor?
I love an edible favor. Only thing that makes me hesitate is kids and allergies. I was recently at a party where the child had to leave post pizza bc the cake that was ordered was from a standard bakery where cross contamination of peanuts could have occurred (i.e. not a stop and shop cake). I was at a different party where the child couldn't take home chocolate covered pretzel favor bc they were allergic to dairy. Just something to keep in mind. Poor kids :(

My kids have food allergies and we throw out all edible favors. They are always so disappointed when we get food.

True but kids can literally be allergic to anything so in that case you can't really serve anything at a party. No pizza No cake No cookies Gluten, dairy, nuts, eggs etc The list can go on and on. There is no way to accommodate everyone at a party of 25 kids

Exactly.
My kid doesn't have allergies, but she does have an autoimmune disease and can't eat most foods ( not celiac, she could potentially have a life threatening reaction just to clear that up). She's 6 - this stuff doesn't phase her. She knows she can't have it, life isn't fair. She's there for the party, not the favor. She also knows Id throw out a bag of crap toys or dye-filled candy anyway so it doesn't matter anyway.

It’s true... but with all the nut allergies (we always have at least one kid with a nut allergy), we get a nut free cake and double check with the parents if it’s ok. If there is a special cake requested (like the carvel cake we used recently), I get a bunch of allergy free cupcakes. I usually get an epi pen at drop off parties now. I don’t want to use it!!!
For favors, if you have a nut allergy (ask the parents), just get one special favor for the kid who has the allergy.
While it’s impossible to try to please everyone, I think a nut free option is pretty much standard now. I also try to have 2 food options.

I get a the pull apart cupcakes from the stop and shop bakery or the BJ's sheet cake for DD's parties. I don't think there are any nuts in it. It's cake and frosting. It's not like she wants a walnut cake or anything. I don't see too many cakes with nuts in them for kids

It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t have nuts in it. If it was baked on shared equipment there is the danger of cross contamination. That’s why parents of kids with allergies have to be so careful. It’s not always that black and white.

Some kids with allergies can have cake with no nuts (like a Carvel cake).
Some are so sensitive, the bakery need to be nut free totally. We always get something from a totally nuts free bakery (a pack of 12 cupcakes are $5 or less). They are specially marked. I have a cousin who has a severe nut allergy and though his mom brings something for him, we have an excellent local nut free bakery.

interesting. I definitely have never seen a nut free bakery by me and never been to a party with a cake anything other than stop and shop or a BJs or cupcakes to be honest. My dd picks her own cake for her birthday and it's a huge deal to her. I went to one party once where the mom brought her own treats for her kid, but this wasn't my party

Yes -- this is what i mean. Some of these allergies are life threatening. No life is not fair, and yes the child should by a certain age know what they can and cannot eat -- BUT that is their every day life. At school, at home, etc they are always separated and treated differently. At a party, once in a while, it would be nice to feel like everyone else. My kids do not have allergies (and i thank my lucky stars every single day) because being a mother of an allergy kid is incredibly hard and scary. The reason why everyone gets their cakes at Stop n Shop and BJ's is bc they guarantee that they are made without cross contamination of nuts. Unfortunately that allergy could be deadly ... So so scary. I am not saying to not give the favor, just that this could be possibly something to consider.

That totally sucks. I am sorry you and your children have to deal with this. I hope for your sake the allergies are the same. I couldnt imagine having to deal with multiple children with different allergies and keeping their food separated.
