Take it with a grain of salt. I honestly mostly read the light, fun posts.
See, I don't see it as bragging when people post new things they got or vacations. I actually scroll through them and are happy for them.
I roll my eyes at the political posts or those "pot stirrers" and keep scrolling.
I like to read the funny posts or watch the videos of animal recues (which I still can never understand who takes out their phone when they see a poor dog trapped first instead of running over to them Chat Icon )

I actually like to post vacations a lot or the kids. THen it gets to show up on timehop later and I smile at the memories. I don't really post new cars or construction. We do get new cars bc we lease, but don't think about posting it. I also haven't had too much construction done bc I live with a contractor so I'm last on the list. LOL
If I got my son a new car at 17 I would post that.
Enjoy the fun stuff and scroll through any negative stuff. Not worth getting you upset. It's Facebook. Not the real world. I call my friends when something's bothering me... not posting it on social media

This. Social media isn’t for everyone and that’s fine

But lots of judgement on here for those who do and share happy moments from their life. Doesn’t mean their life is perfect or that they are bragging.

I’m happy to see my friends remodels. Trips. CArs. Kids first steps etc.

Op bottom line of its too much for you I would take a hiatus and see how you feel after a while

Re: how do you stop facebook/social media from depressing you

Evaluate why it is depressing you and try to work on it. Because if posts are depressing you than it’s stemming from something within. You also should get off of it if you aren’t enjoying FB. FB should be fun and a way to connect with people. Not a job unless you actually work there lol or sad.

I only post happy/funny stuff, why would I post my business and bad stuff on social media. That makes no sense, and anyone who knows me knows that I don’t pretend to have a happy perfect life. Yes, people are over the top but I hide their feeds or just say congrats and scroll on by.

I travel a lot and love to take pictures. I’ve actually lost phones and pics, FB/Instagram preserved some of these memories. If simple pics of people remodeling, traveling or posting happy events in their lives bother you then find out why.

I’ve unfollowed my cousins and friends because they would post ignorant and borderline racists rants. Even though people say there isn’t reverse racism, so idk what you would call these fools. The point was they were angering me so I removed them because going on social media should not be p!ssing me off.

I unfollow anyone who annoys me. That’s really the best advice I have.

-Political posters
-Obvious braggers (#blessed every 3 seconds when I know you IRL and you’re a psycho who is anything but)
-Attention seekers (Vague posts for prayers but not why , multiple sad face emojis, etc)

These people don’t depress me per say, but they ruin my Social media experience. I like to see my friends and families pictures, funny memes, all the dog pages I follow lol. That’s what it should be. If it’s not putting mostly smiles on your face-it’s time to step away and figure out why

how do you stop facebook/social media from depressing you

I just don’t ever compare myself with anyone. I’m living my life and others live theirs. I’m happy with my little family and how we spend our time and money and wouldn’t change a thing.

I’m sure if I ever felt depressed by it I’d be done with FB and IG immediately.

Re: how do you stop facebook/social media from depressing you

Depends on why is the source. FB or Instagram don't depress me. They did to my sister and she stopped using them. If I find some posts from some people annoying, I just unfollow them.

I couldn't see twitter during political campaigns. The negativism and bitterness of some annoyed me way too much.

Cancel it.

I deactivated Facebook because I found I spent way too much time mindlessly scrolling and looking what everyone else was doing...

Re: how do you stop facebook/social media from depressing you

I think there is a tendency for some to amalgamate all Facebook posts into one fictional person with the perfect life. So one friend might go on a great vacation, another redid her kitchen, and a third got a new car. But when you scroll quickly it blends into one person, with one amazing life.

I don't think anyone has a perfect life. You don't know their health struggles, or marriage trouble, or trouble conceiving, or mental health issues. People generally post the highlight reel of their life.

I am sure there are things that are nice for you. You have to focus on the good that you have. If you want something, use that to motivate you to save up for it. Someone else having success does not mean you can't or won't also have your own success.

I don't see how it is any any different than hearing wonderful things happening to friends/family/coworkers and having that get you down/,ake you feel jealous.

Do people post mostly happy times? Of course, I post the picture of my kids hugging not of them hitting or yelling at me/each other.

I see a lot of people saying FB is fake...and I dont get that...I mean I post mostly my kids, are they perfect , no? but we have plenty of happy, fun moments which are what I show...nothing fake about that

LOL, I know who is going to post a sh!tty moment in their life to remind them of it.

Like when my son is being a jerk, oh wait let me take a pic and post it on FB. That's what I want to do extend the agony and irritation I feel. Lets remember this moment foreverChat Icon

exactly..Like I dont often post pictures of me and my husband, maybe i will if we have a nice pic of ourselves or on his bday or whatever but there is nothing "fake" about it when i do post---not to say we are perfect or dont fight but again why would I post that?!

It just makes me laugh when people say things like "the more happy posts someone makes the shittier their life is" why?! can't some people just have nice, happy lives? lol

I guess I don't see the purpose of all of this sharing. Its fine to do milestones, but I see so many people posting pics of their kids when they are sick, when they go to the ER, etc. That to me speaks to a need for external validation, which I just find to be a head-scratcher.

I try and not get jealous in general and I definitely don’t get jealous from Facebook posts. Most post make me wonder what people are thinking and the ones I know the whole story make me cringe.

I like knowing what’s going on in my town and surrounding areas. I like suggestions on places to eat and things to do with my children.

I post every now and then and it doesn’t even touch on how busy and fulfilled my life is. IRL I update those close to me and that’s all that matters.

Um, my cousin posted a picture of her dead husband on Facebook. From the morgue. It was the top of his head, but still!

It is depressing! I think as hard as it may be... just stay off it. The first few days aren't easy, but after awhile you get used to it.
Download different apps. I go on shopping apps and read more.

It's funny because as soon as my brothers funeral was over my sister had a pic of his coffin post on FB.....I just dont get why that would be the very first concern right after burying your brother.

i used to follow a lot of animal cruelty pages and it can make you extremely depressed. shit, everyday news can make you extremely depressed. i unfollowed 98% of the animal cruelty pages and it helped.

i unfollowed people on political rampages 24/7. I mean really get a life.

i stick to people who post mostly positive things.

if people post great things, vacay, house, car whatever, i'm really genuinely happy for them not jealous. if people are happy then great!

i'm a fb addict so i can't just go off of it so I control what I see.

Re: how do you stop facebook/social media from depressing you

i remind myself that it's just a glimpse and not the whole story. People only post to show the good never the bad. They also post the good to make themselves feel better. You can easily look at your life and see glimpses of good in it. that's all social media is.

I do find this part to be annoying (aside from the aspects that depress me). and then that depresses me that they have the confidence to think that everyone gives a crap.
