anyone change careers in their 40s?
Long story short, I have worked for my current company for the last 17 years and have been in the same position for the last 9. A new position opened up in my department and I transferred in to it. I hate it! It is not the position for me and I have received zero training so I am having to figure out everything from scratch.
I now am having such anxiety about work and am thinking about leaving but don't want to stay in the same field. My major hesititation would be taking a pay cut and leaving my great vacation time (I have 4 weeks, 8 holidays, 9 sick days and an additional 6 personal/birthday p[aid days off)
Has anyone changed careers and loved it?

I went back to school at 32. Graduated at 36 and started a new career at 37. But it still tied into what o had been doing since college so I didn’t just throw away all my knowledge. Then 2 years ago I went to a different side of the business I’m in. I never took a pay cut but did make lateral moves along the way.

Re: anyone change careers in their 40s?
No, but I want to! I've been here 21 years & would be giving up 5 weeks vacation & probably summer Fridays & working from home, but I might not have a choice,. My company is falling apart & I don't think I can or want to find something similar. I don't know what to do next though. I don't make very much, so I probably wouldn't have to take too much of a pay cut even with an entry level job, but who wants to hire a 43 year old in an entry level position?

I became an RN at 38. Best decision I've ever made. I was scared but it was so worth it!!

I did (well not quite 40 but was 37) unfortunately this was not by choice as I lost my job of 15 yrs at the time. Out of sheer luck I was canvassed for a civil service test I had taken years prior. Now I won’t say I love the job itself but it’s a county job with decent pay and vacation time, and great hours.
