Do you think people can change?
If someone says that he/she will change, do you think it can happen?
I myself feel that I can change. Not in every way, but I know that if I put my mind to it, I certainly try harder to change either something I do or my perspective. But can others do it?

I think you can change small things, but I believe major personality traits cannot be changed. The key thing is wether the person wants to change themselves...nobody can make someone change.

It depends on if you want to..
If DH for instance asked me to change something and I felt it was warranted I would TRY...But some times people say they will change when they really dont want to, they are just saying it..

I think, like others said that change can happen if the person wants to.
BUT it is hard. It does not happen over night. I think people can change ANYTHING they want but they have to work at it. Yes there are "core" personality traits but they can be changed too. Nothing that you have been doing the majority of your life or were raised to be can be changed just by saying "ok i am changing that".
And the person who believe that WILL be disappointed!
But i am optimistic and have seen people change for the better and for the worse!

I agree.
Also, I think when someone says to someone else "ok, I'll change", it's just to shut that person up temporarily. If a person knows that something needs to be changed, they know to work at it, but not that it'll change cold turkey.

I think 90% of the time when people say they are going to change they don't. It doens't mean they won't eventually. The person has to really want to, and if it's with some kind of problem or vice, they really have to WANT to change it and a lot of times hit rock bottom. I think it's VERY difficult for someone to change, so when someone says they will, I generally don't believe it, because it's just SO difficult, more difficult than people realize. It's SO much easier for people to SAY they are going to change and INTEND to change than to actually change.
