Male Factor infertility hope
Hey ladies!! Just updating and giving some hope. Our fertility issues have always been both my and my husbands. For the old times who remember my story, my DH had very bad SA’s and then had a terrible DNA fragmentation test revealing sperm oxidation, free radicals, 2% morph and poor motility. He went to a urologist and found out he had bilateral varicocele which are varicose veins inhibiting healthy blood flow to testicles. 2 years ago, he had surgery to repair it. He has had SA’s following showing slight improvement (2% going to 4% morph) but his urologist was sure he would still improve. I was skeptical hearing how limited improvement can be. We have decided to try one last time for another child and might do IUI so I told him to do another SA. His improvement was amazing! He jumped to above average with most of the tests and his morph is an 8%! I couldn’t believe it. Just reminding you ladies to push your SO to get tested also during this time and if they have a varicocele, it may make sense to have it repaired!

Re: Male Factor infertility hope
Hi!! I am so happy to hear this for you and your husband! That’s fantastic news. I also feel like it was meant that you posted this. I’m going to show this to my DH. We just talked about this is morning. How he should have done this 2 years ago when I was pregnant. The urologist says it takes about 2 years for the sperm to adjust. I wanted him to but he procrastinated and avoided it. So thank you for posting this! I will show him this haha.

That's awesome news
Just to share another perspective though - My DH had the surgery and had no improvement. In addition, his recovery was pretty rough.

Thanks for sharing also. How long was the recovery?

That's great news!!! My husband was hesitant but had a very successful varicocele surgery also. His recovery was great - and he's a big baby when it comes to pain and he had next to none.

They said he would be able to resume normal activity within a week. I will say he is normally very active and an avid runner so he was disappointed when it took 6 weeks to get back to running.

By the way, how soon after the surgery can you try again? Did they think it would take 2 years before you could become pregnant? My friend Nicole her husband just had the surgery and her urologist told them it would take 2 years most likely before they would conceive. What did your husband urologist say?

Male Factor infertility hope
I am surprised that I hadn't posted on this thread...
My husband had this procedure done January 2017. We had just miscarried at 11 weeks the month before with a baby conceived through IUI. His numbers had been taking a nose dive through those few IUIs and it was even a miracle that I got pregnant with the low count he had been producing (which didn't happen when I had my second son). I was not quite ready to dive into the world of IVF, so I told my husband he was going to a urologist. We had known he had a varicocele so the doctor recommended surgery, but said there are no guarantees. So he underwent the procedure...not going to lie, he was in a lot of pain for a few days (but they are men so their pain tolerance is pathetic). Once he was clear for sex, we just tried for those few months and we conceived in April 2017 (3 months after procedure).
We never got him tests for a SA, but I guess he is packing because we conceived my daughter (who I had in July) on the first month of trying.
So it can work! Hope it does for you!

Thank you so much for sharing your story!! What a happy ending your family had!! I am shocked that it happened so fast as I was told it takes 2 years! Thank you for giving some hope!
