Tip for birthday party at a place

How much of a tip are you supposed to do if you have your child's birthday party at a place?

Are you supposed to do a percentage off the cost? or just $20 to the host, $40, etc?

TIA!

Re: Tip for birthday party at a place

I would give $20 to each helper.
So she had it at Saf T Swim one year- I gave $20 to the party host and $20 to the lifeguard.

Gymnastics- $20 to each person who was working it.

Funny you asked this b/c this weekend we're throwing DS a bday party at Chuck E. Cheese. When they called to confirm yesterday they told me I can give the tip on Sunday, and suggested 20%. No WAY! This party is costing us $1,000. You don't get $200 just to cut my son's cake and hand out juice!

Re: Tip for birthday party at a place

We just had a party at a bounce type place. We gave $40 to the teenage girl who was with us throughout the party because she was really great and $20 to the boy who only helped in the party room cutting the cake and handing out food. When my DH went to pay the bill, they had added a suggested gratuity of 20 percent on the bill and he said no way, we already gave our own tips.

i didn't even know this was a thing to be honest. If I'm paying $500+ for a party for 10 kids i'm not tipping on top of that, that's crazy.

Ok, so here is the best part. We got home yesterday and while opening gifts, we realized they had given us a gift that did not belong to DS (one of the parties after ours was the same first name as DS). So trying to be honest, I called CEC to let them know they had given us someone else's gift. The girl who answered the phone accused me of taking a gift that didn't belong to us! Excuse me, your party helper that you wanted me to tip $200 packed the gifts in bags for us to take home.

I just spent $1,000 on a bday party. You think I'm going to steal a $15 gift for my son?!? Come on people!

Wait, what??? What exactly did she say to you?
And um, if you really wanted to steal that gift, why would you call them back and tell them about it?

Re: Tip for birthday party at a place

Just wanted to say my sister used to work at a Trampoline Park doing parties. She would always work her butt off and would really appreciate the generosity of receiving a tip. $20 or up I think is appropriate. Definitely not 20%. That is insane! While these party places are charging an arm and a leg they are only paying the kids working minimum wage.

Re: Tip for birthday party at a place

No one gives 20%. That is insane. $20 -40 is fine. Also, 1000 at Cec????? What. How many people did you have? When did it get that expensive? I think it was $200 five years ago for a party of 24 kids.

Re: Tip for birthday party at a place

Im the sucker who gives 20%! I feel bad and I always ask my DH and he says just to do it.

At the bounce place there is at least 4-5 people helping through out the party and if i tip them each $20 it basically equals to 20%

EXACTLY! I never would have called in the first place.

The girl said to me, "Ok, so you took a gift home that didn't belong to you from another party?" I was so taken aback. It definitely sounded like she was accusing me of taking it on purpose.

Very easy to spend that much on a party there. They aren't cheap and DS had a lot of friends to invite. Our original list was over 50!
