Car inspection due this month & coronavirus

With everything shutting down, and every one (or most people) trying to avoid unnecessary interactions, I'm hesitant to bring my car in for inspection in the next couple weeks. Hoping I can get it in asap, but might end up being April by the time I do. Think cops will be more lenient with penalties this considering the current situation?

I heard that the DMV was extending license expiration dates so I'm sure it will be the same for registrations.

I heard registrations are automatically extended by 2 months. Probably the same for inspections, I would think

When I get an inspection I literally just drop it off and come back, I would ask if that is an option if you want to limit your time out

I got my car inspected on Thursday and it was dead empty at a place that's usually packed by 8am. I'm sure they were glad for the business and I was only inside for 2 minutes with no other customers. I would probably call to make sure they're open and then take advantage of the lull. You'll be around way less people than going to the grocery store.

I don't see why you can't get an inspection.

You don't need to interact with anyone any more than you would if you ran into a 7-11 for milk.

I think it's a bit different, because we NEED food, but if my car is just going to be sitting in the driveway for the next 2 weeks, at least, anyway, does it NEED to be inspected, or can that just wait til things blow over? Also, if someone in my family, or the mechanic, has it but doesnt realize yet, the germs will be inside the car to easily transfer. Just doesn't seem worth the risk to me right now.

Hopefully what some other posters said about the dmv extending the expiration dates is true. Just seems like that would make sense, given that they're shutting so many other things down right now.

Are you self quarantining for 2 weeks, or will you be driving around? Because it was mentioned that you were hoping cops would be more lenient, which means you are still out and about. If you plan to drive your car, please get it inspected. Mechanics are not sitting inside your car coughing and drooling all over everything, but Lysol the inside before you drive it home if it makes you feel better.

Small businesses are being devastated by this. This is one small thing that is safe to do that will help keep people working.

I plan to stay home the next 2 weeks at least. I would of course get it inspected as soon as I go back to normal routines. I feel very bad for all the local businesses right now, but things are being shut down for a reason, so I feel like the more we can avoid interactions to help slow the spread, the better for everyone. And I'm not worried about the mechanic "drooling" on my car as much as I'm worried than my DS has a bad cough, and coughs all over the car bc hes too young to cover his mouth always. I'm actually trying to think of other people. If I brought the car in, I'd have to bring ds with me, no one else wants to watch a toddler that coughing like crazy right now.

Then I agree that you should not leave your home, for any reason, for at least 14 days.

Car inspection due this month & coronavirus

I do DMV for a dealer and we haven't been notified of any extensions to anything.

Inspections take such a minute amount of time, I understand the hesitation, but I would just have it done and wipe the steering wheel, shifter and handles down when its done.

lol same here! I never, ever remember to get an inspection. They should make it every 2 yrs like a registration. I joke that my annual reminder is a ticket. I went almost a year this time and never got a ticket lol.

OP - if you get the chance, I would take it to get inspected. If not, you might get a ticket, but if it's only a couple weeks over due and you get the inspection within 24 hours of getting the ticket, they will dismiss the ticket. I've never actually paid an inspection ticket and I've gotten a ton of them.
