Unemployment question
Hi - I have never received unemployment before. We wanted direct deposit but some how it went through to debit card. It says it was authorized on 3/30. Does anyone know generally how long after it is authorized that it would be mailed. We are nervous about it coming in debit card form. Again never had this before and I have no idea what to expect. There is no way to get through to anyone and can't find this information anywhere TIA

Re: Unemployment question
I don’t know the answer. I know when you apply it says to call a number to confirm them you can’t get through. I’m wanting to know if it really isn’t approved until you somehow manage to get through to the number, which appears to be impossible no matter how many times you call. Sorry I can’t help, this is so frustrating!

Unemployment question
I've been trying for a week and a half to get through to complete a claim for my teenage son. It's so frustrating. Nothing is approved for him until he calls to complete his claim. You go through all the prompts and it just hangs up on you.

I am helping my child out too. I did it all online. All good. Then told to call. Took me all day. Finally got through. Bad connection and then told I would have to wait to talk to someone. Then told they see too busy, call back and was hung up on. Been trying again and all busy.

They really need to make it all automated and online- they clearly are too overwhelmed to handle phone calls, and that's fine ,but it's not right that calling is a condition to get your benefit because it seems impossible to get through.

Re: Unemployment question
My husbands card arrived less than a week after he did the first benefits claim. We also signed up for direct deposit & they sent the card instead, so annoying. We put in the info again for direct deposit this week, we’ll see what happens.

What I don’t get is the same things I did online the automated call asked me again. Then I have to talk to a person too?

Yup! I did it almost 2 weeks ago now for my dh. I sat there for 2 1/2 hours and continually dialed. Never took more than a 20-30 second break. I can’t imagine what it’s like now.

Unemployment question
You have to call in even if you did it online? What’s the sense of that?

None. Makes no sense and is just delaying payment to millions of people. In this day and age everything should just be done online. Unbelievable. And you would think they would have associates available 24 hrs right now. Nope.
And I haven't had to deal with this yet. But I'm sure it's coming

Unemployment question
When I call now it says your call can not be completed please try again later. I’ve tried repeatedly. Unfortunately we have other things to do and can’t keep dialing constantly, we need to use the phone for other things and have terrible cell service here.

Re: Unemployment question
mine says my claim is complete, there is o need to speak to an agent at this time. In another section it shows it was authorized on 3/30 but not sure what that means. Does that mean authorized and will come 3-6 weeks from now or does that mean mailed. I can't find the answer anywhere and it is a waste to try to call. Goes right to a busy signal. It's so frustrating

It should come next week, there is no wait period. Dh did the first benefit claim on the 25th & had the debit card a few days later with the first payment. Now he files on sundays.
The very first time you set up for unemployment, there is a 1 week wait period...and then you start filing to “claim benefits”. But I think just in the past week they are even waiving that one week wait.

Re: Unemployment question
There are different reasons why you would need to call them. If your job is straightforward & you get a w-2, you should be able to complete online. I’m an independent contractor & get 1099s, so I had to call & talk to someone in order to complete it. However, it’s still not complete, they are sending the companies that I work for a questionnaire to fill out in order to see if I qualify. I’m hoping now that they’ve changed the rules for independent contractors maybe they will waive the questionnaires. Neither company I work for are even open, they’ll never fill out a questionnaire! Ugh, what a mess.

You have to continue trying. I called 125 times in a row on Wednesday. Mostly busy. Then get through all the prompts just for it to hang up On me. But eventually, I got through to being on hold for about 40 minutes. Then finally someone got on the phone. Spoke to him for close to an hour and then right at the end I got disconnected. I thought I was going to a have a stroke and he called me back!!! He said “you were so close and it took so long, I couldn’t imagine how you felt when the call dropped” I thanked this man up down and sideways and wish him nothing but a wonderful Life going forward!
I’m a freelance graphic designer. Freelance people don’t usually collect UI but in this case, they are allowing it. Nobody is advertising. If nobody advertises, nobody needs my services. So as a 1099, I applied online. Was told I had to cal to complete it. Went through all that and I still had to fax them copies of my 1099s from 2018 &2019. I have to check my message portal tomorrow to se if it’s all set up and start filing. Fingers crossed
But you can’t stop calling. I spent hours to get it done but it’s (almost) done

I also freelance. I filed 2 weeks ago before they created the pandemic insurance. I also faxed my 1099s, but just for 2019. They told me they would send questionnaires to me & my employers to fill out, then they would determine how much I would get. Did they mention anything like that to you? I’m thinking with this new exception they eliminated that. Right now I’m filing each week & it goes through...but it still says pending & the amount right now is at $0. I guess I’m gonna have to call ugh

They didn’t mention anything about sending anything to employers to be filled out. Hopefully the eliminated it because one of the people I did work for all of 2018 moved to Texas so the address I had on file isn’t valid. And the current person I’ve done work for this past 12 years steadily is unreliable (I used to have to remind multiple times to mail my payments in) so good luck having anything filled out lol
So we’ll see
ETA: maybe because I have done steady work as a 1099 for this specific company 12+ years and showing 2018 & 2019 consistent income from them is enough? I dunno. I’ll update when I know

Yeah, I don’t think either company I work for would take the time to fill something out & mail it back. So I was getting hopeless...but I’m hoping they eliminated that...I’m gonna try calling tomorrow. One company I’ve been working with for 15 years...the other for 5 years.

Not sure if anyone else started getting their unemployment but my child got theirs today. It has been just over a week that they applied.
