Re: Some positivity

I definitely eat better and make sure to use what I have. I don’t do take out simply because I have food in the fridge and I want to save money.

I have learned how to be more efficient and learned a new skill sort of: teaching online. I can now add that to my resume.

Drink a lot less. When I was stressed, I would always have a glass of wine. I’m happy that I have learned to get away from that behavior. I’ll have a drink once a week at most. The beginning of quarantine it was much different.

Talk to friends and family much more.

Re: Some positivity

Is anyone working from home as I feel like I have less time as many to do extra things? I have to be around to work so can’t just start something and my lunch hours are not relaxing unless the house is napping.
I am able to clean and do laundry more often though which is good and bad as I feel like all I do is clean with everyone home all the time.

I lost my job in November, so I’ve been a bum way before this. That’s why it’s easier for me to do workouts and be the zoom advocate to get my family together. If I was working, I’d be in hell since my son is an absolute nightmare with this distance learning and my old job was very demanding. I used to wfh twice a week.

Re: Some positivity

One of my positives is that DH and I take a walk (or sometimes 2 or 3) every day.

On our walk last evening, we saw so many people sitting outside in front of their houses or gardening or walking. Every single person said "hello." It was so nice.

Our neighborhood was NEVER that friendly - it wasn't like people were rude - but this is a new level of friendliness and people being neighborly.

It was so nice to walk and "connect" with people however briefly.

Re: Some positivity

Some other positives:

1. Tonight we are doing an extended family game night - Family Feud. Picture a bunch of Latinos talking over each other loudly, not listening and laughing. Can’t wait for the sh!t show Chat Icon

2. My son actually washes his hands without me screaming at him

3. With my son away. My DH and I, will have a creative date tomorrow. Usually we will eat out or just sit home binge watching tv lol.

Re: Some positivity

I thought I'd bring this thread up again, since it's been almost exactly a year.

I'm actively getting things organized for "real" summer camp this year. We are allowed to camp overnight with Scouts at official camps. We still can't camp on weekends as a Troop, but that's a vent for another thread... Chat Icon It's going to be so great getting back out in the woods for a while. I'm doing two weeks to make up for missing my usual one week last year.

That's exciting. My DH use to go camping as a kid, I never did, so we're thinking about going on our first camping trip this summer. I personally want a log cabin, lol, he wants the tent thing. We'll see. Chat Icon

Now that life is getting back to normal I am looking forward to planning travel again. There are so many places I would love to see and I have really missed having a trip to look forward to. First up will be heading south to see my parents, the kids cannot wait.

I am also hopeful for a normal start to the school year in September so that I can have my routines back and focus on some of the things that I wanted to do for myself prior to COVID shutting the world down. I've always wanted to start my own side hustle so I am going to focus more on that now and see where it goes. Overall, I am just excited to have things to look forward to again and to be able to see friends and family and feel normal. I am so happy to be past the worst of COVID, quarantine was rough.

Oh man it's so weird reading what I wrote last year and thinking back to the place that I was emotionally at that point. I definitely had just started to feel a little bit better getting out of the quarantine funk, but I really didn't completely snap out of it until we left the country in August. So happy that things are close to normal again.

reading your comment made me look to see if i had replied.

well...
pre-pandemic, during pandemic, post-pandemic: my life is pretty much the same. not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing lol
playing with yarn is all i do.

although, this past year has helped me to realize that there are more things i want to do with my life. i'll be getting a haircut this weekend for the purpose of taking a good passport picture - i am making a promise to myself to get out there and travel to all those places i've only dreamed of.

Well next weekend is looking like a more “normal” weekend. Will probably go out and see a band. Even though you can’t dance, it will be nice to see people we haven’t seen in over a year and still listen to some live music, eat and drink. We also have a wedding which I hear is not as bad as it sounds like to go to. Excited to actually dance there and relax and celebrate with family and friends.

Re: Some positivity

My response is pretty much the same as last year’s response.

A few more to add:

I have really gotten into ice cream making. My latest was toasted almond and candied cherry ice cream. I do part of my ice cream in the sous vide maker and part in the ice cream maker.

A pic:

It’s almost half empty now Chat Icon

And while I have not been totally happy about lockdown for so long, it has given me time to spend with and care for my aging and sick cat, Phoebe.

A few summers ago on my balcony:

Thank you all. Chat Icon

It was a really frightening, stressful experience, and they have a long road to full recovery ahead, but at least they're on that road!
