Another Doc visit with disappointments as well as positivity!
I had a routine pap today before my AIH next week and learned some things that were upsetting and some that were exciting.
First, as I sat waiting on the exam table, I read a sign that said my doctor will no longer be delivering babies as of January 2007. I sat there and felt my heart slump to my stomach. There are two other docs in the practice and they are merging with another practice for a total of 5. I know they are competent so that isn't the issue. Its just that my doc wont be doing obstetrics anymore. This man is the only GYN I have ever had. He will still be, I just wanted him to be the only man between my legs other than DH when I have a baby.
On the positive side, he told me the differences between AIH and IUI. He said that DH can be with me for the procedure. He told me he would dim the lights and put mood music in the room if I REALLY wanted it . He also said that DH's count rendered him rather virile. A normal sperm count is supposed to be 20 million per ml and DH can proudly boast 60 million per ml. The doctor also said we would do this for three cycles and at that point we move on to more invasive means. I am expected to return to the doctors office for blood work to test levels the following week after the AIH - Ill know by then!
The doctor also confirmed that a lot of the information seen on the net is innaccurate, that my window of opportunity for conception after an positive OPK is longer than I thought. With all factors considered. I hope to be pregnant by April.
I am simply anxious about next week. I dont know how I can concentrate from now until then. Thanks for continued support.
ETA: Re: internet info - the net had me believeing that I would not be able to take glucose tests when PG because I am a gastric bypass patient and do not process sugars regularly. One article said I would have to monitor my sugar via glucometer - the doc shook his head and said "nope" - that he has had MANY patients with gastric bypass who had regular glucose tests and did fine. My mom had diabetes when she was pregnant and has Type 2 right now so I had been concerned.

For the acronyminally challenged, what's AIH?

For the acronyminally challenged, what's AIH?
Artificial Insemination by Husband.
It differs from IUI in that there is no washing/cleaning of sperm. He said that IUI was often done in cases of low sperm counts and issues with cervical mucus as well as other issues. It is also more invasive and not done in his office while AIH is. We have a timing issue and not a physiological issue. Our doctor is acting as he puts it as a "conduit." We will have been TTCing for 7 months by the time we start AIH. I am 36 (and a half).

Thanks! I looked at him and said "Um you couldn't wait for me?" He laughed. He said he will see me through my first tri-mester. After that, I would have to see the other docs in the practice anyway to acquaint myself with them in the event that my doc was not on call to deliver.

he really sounds like a great guy. you are so lucky to have an OB you like. as you know, i have only seen mine once and since then she's made me MAD
question for you - what did your doc say about the window of opp following a positive OPK? i am curious.

interesting... the more i learn, the more unsure i am about the utility of OPKs, especially if your cycle is regular.

Re: Another Doc visit with disappointments as well as positivity!
My cycle is regular. I thought he said after the AIH but it may have been after the OPK, but he did say 72 hours. A lot of information was flowing during the convo. Im also anxious.

Re: Another Doc visit with disappointments as well as positivity!
Interestingly, I've been toying with the idea of writing an article about information on the net. My clients get completely inaccurate information all the time. I assume that I often read inaccurate information online, too.
Sorry about your Dr. That really sucks, having your heart set on a doctor and then having to switch.

Re: Another Doc visit with disappointments as well as positivity!
Sounds like everything went pretty well and you are definitely on your way. I know how you feel about your doc not delivering anymore. When I went to my appt last week, I was told when I do get pg, I will have to see another doc since my doc no longer delivers. My doc is the only one in her office so I will have to go elsewhere. I'm pretty bummed about this since I am so comfortable with her.
Good Luck with everything! As always Please keep us posted!

Re: Another Doc visit with disappointments as well as positivity!
Well Im sorry about your doctor but on the bright side, this news is fantastic Leslie! I still say its March baby!!!!!!! So excited for you and I cant wait!!!!!!!!!!
ETA: I also believe that a woman's window of opportunity to get pregnant is a lot longer after OPK than most women think...thats how we got preggo...we BDd on the 15th day...before we would BD on 12, 13 and 14th day and nada...so I say ladies, once you get an OPK, BD for like 3-4 days straight after that.
