Gym classes when gyms reopen
I was just taking the classes at the gym. It got pretty crowded in the class most days. I suppose that will change and there will be a limit on how many can attend each class, which is going to make it hard to even attend a class given how crowded it was. We used lots of different equipment in classes, different weights, barbells, bands etc. I am not sure how I feel going back with all the different equipment utilized with everything going on. Thinking of cancelling once it reopens as I only went to classes. What is everyone else doing?

Re: Gym classes when gyms reopen
If you are worried about touching the equipment just sanitize your hands immediately after class. Touching things never concerns me at all- it's not transmitted unless you touch your mouth or nose or eyes with dirty hands.
As far as class sizes, I am sure they will have to do reservations and sign ups in advance and you probably can only go to like one or 2 classes a week to give everyone else a chance
My issue would be if i had to wear a mask in class. No way could I exercise or do heavy cardio or any work out with a mask on. So if that was the rule, I'd have to stop going and just do workout videos at home etc

Gym classes when gyms reopen
I am an avid gym goer. I go 6-7 times a week. When gyms reopen, I will not be going.
If I was to go, I would be there at 4:20 in the morning when I know it is pretty much empty (3-4 old guys and me - lol). My gym starts "picking up" around 5am. By 5:30 am, it is busy. By 6 am, it is just as busy as the afternoon.

Re: Gym classes when gyms reopen
I used to love going to classes, but when I moved last year, the classes at my new gym sucked, so I quit. I signed up for Beachbody a few months ago & love it! It’s $99 for the year (less than $9/month), and the classes on there are better than a lot of gyms I’ve gone too. But you do need some equipment for some of the programs. I already had weights, so I just bought the resistance bands & sliders (about $15 each). I didn’t but them from the Beachbody site, I got them on Amazon.

Gym classes when gyms reopen
The gym is the place I feel least comfortable going. I cancelled my membership.

Re: Gym classes when gyms reopen
While the last year I didn't get there as much as I wanted, I enjoyed the classes. I feel the same as the responses, I feel uncomfortable going. Wasn't sure if it was just me. I have a membership for years and I feel I will fall in a rut with exercising if I cancel membership, but can't see going anytime soon if gyms open up soon. I am the type that needs the class to workout though.

Re: Gym classes when gyms reopen
I won’t be going back for a long time. I tried to cancel my membership 3x already through emails and messages left but they aren’t getting back to me. I’m not being charged, so I’m not sweating it. But if I still can’t get through once they reopen, I will just dispute it on my card to stop it. It’s a month to month w crunch.
I purchased a resistance band set on amazon. It’ll be here tmrw.

Gym classes when gyms reopen
My DH used to work out in a gym 6 days a week and he says he is not comfortable going back, so he won’t. I belong to Club Pilates and don’t know what kind of precautions they will have in place since everyone shares the machines and equipment in a small class. Waiting to see what they do, but I don’t think I’ll be going back for a long time.

Re: Gym classes when gyms reopen
Seems like gyms will be nice and empty when they reopen for the people who want to go.

Re: Gym classes when gyms reopen
I'm cancelling. I only do classes also and they announced you will have limited booking, only for 90 mts at the time in the gym (sometimes I take 2 classes), wearing masks, etc... too much for me, while paying the same ridiculously monthly amount. I've been doing Instagram and youtube classes (I have dumbbells, mats, bands and a step at home), and I feel so much safer and I do them when I want and can.

Re: Gym classes when gyms reopen
I won’t be going to my Kickboxing classes because they will require masks and there’s no way. I will continue to do virtual if they offer it, but if the restrictions are the same next year, I won’t renew.
Pretty bummed about that. I feel like a lot of small, private gyms may go out of business.

Where do you go? I hate wearing the masks in class, but getting back has been my savior. I have put on so much weight.

I do Chinese Kickboxing at a small Kung Fu school. I’ve been doing the virtual classes so even though I haven’t lost any that I wanted too lol, I have been able to maintain my weight.
I sweat way too much and it’s a very high intensity class. I also have to focus a little more to keep my breathing under control because of my asthma. It wouldn’t work with a mask.
It’s great you are able to get back in classes. I don’t think people realize how beneficial stuff like this is to people’s health and mental state.

Re: Gym classes when gyms reopen
Those that are cancelling, have you done it already, are you waiting for them to reopen? I've been a member for so long, but on top of feeling uncomfortable going when they reopen, the classes were cut a lot in last few years so the ones I went to were very crowded. I imagine they will have a limit on the classes and it will be stressful even getting in a class, if I ever felt comfortable going.

Re: Gym classes when gyms reopen
It looks like gyms will reopen soon. I am leaning on cancelling. I can't see how I would feel comfortable in a class and getting in class will be stressful as they will probably be cut in size ending up with so many people trying to get in.
Has anyone had a problem cancelling while the gyms are closed?

Gym classes when gyms reopen
So what is everyone doing now that gyms are opening up? My pilates gym is opening at half capacity (6ppl total) and we’d have to wear masks. I don’t know what to do. I am very unsure about going back but I also miss going so much and I could really use the workout.

Re: Gym classes when gyms reopen
Gyms in CT reopened in mid June. I froze my membership and just went back this week. My gym offers mask and mask optional classes. The mask classes space people 6 feet apart and the mask optional ones space people 12 feet apart. People still need to wear masks going into and out of the gym as well as transitions to other equipment in the mask optional classes. I was worried about working out in a mask, but I felt more comfortable with everyone having to wear masks. I wore a disposable mask and it wasn’t as bad as I thought. It felt so good to be back and immediately lifted my mood.
