test turnaround time

How is Cuomo reporting by 11 am each day, that he knows how many of the people who were tested yesterday were positive? I am probably just really stupid for only realizing this now Chat Icon, but I am assuming the numbers given each day are just the number of positives reported to the state. It could be people that were tested 10 days ago, or people that were tested yesterday. Am I correct?
I also noticed that Tuesday is consistently our day with highest reported numbers- perhaps a reporting lag from the weekend?
This whole numbers thing is so confusing.

Re: test turnaround time

From experience from someone close to me, they didn’t get their results for 11 days. Negative but the woman said when they called at day 9 that if you are positive you can get your results faster.
Makes no sense and someone they know that started the chain reaction to get tested was told they were positive and then a week later negative.
Again why I am doubting all these numbers.

Re: test turnaround time

I was tested in early-mid April on a Saturday, my results were posted on a web site by Monday afternoon (negative). I would guess that they run the tests the same day and if a result is positive, the news gets to the reporting people in Albany first before they release it to the person?

Its a good question though, I would guess if my result were positive, then it would have been posted on the Covid19 Tracker site for Saturday, or would it be grouped into Sunday or Monday's numbers?? hmm..

Re: test turnaround time

i would say the numbers are what was given to state by a certain time the day before. i doubt most of the positives are people tested the day before, maybe some but not most. And i dont think they would go readjust numbers to say if you got tested on the 19th but only found out on the 25th. you would probably be counted in the 25th date

Some tests do take a while still, My BIL got tested over 5 days ago and is still waiting on the results.

Cuomo does say on the weekends the numbers may be off a little because there may be a lag in reporting

test turnaround time

This is why we are looking at 7-14 day trends and not one specific date.

It’s like some people record their weight daily and look for trends instead of just once a week which could be flawed due to hormones, sodium intake, etc.

He is reporting on tests that have gotten results on that day. Not that the person was tested that day.

I was tested at CVS, results in 6 days. Also had a rapid test, results in 15 min. Both negative.

Re: test turnaround time

I was tested on a Wednesday morning and had it back Thursday. This was in Florida. Friends were tested in Long Island on Tuesday and had results Thursday. This was probably a month ago.

Re: test turnaround time

Someone close to me was just tested in NYC and told results will come in 7 to 14 BUSINESS days! This was shocking to me. and also made me realize that the numbers of the day must actually be from days and maybe weeks prior due to test turn around time.
