Mini Summer Getaway

We wanna do a little summer getaway with my 5 and 7 yo. Maybe 3 days. We were thinking Maine but it might be too far. A laidback place but with enough activities for my little ones to do. What places would u recommend?

Re: Mini Summer Getaway

My husband wants to go to lake placid at the end of Summer we'll be staying at a friend's house. What is there to do up there? Is it kid friendly?

We stayed on the lake so went kayaking, SUP, swimming in the lake, in the lakefront pool, etc. We walked down to the Olympic sites. We took a trip to Ausable Chasm which is about an hour north. LOVED it! Beautiful falls. Lots of hiking and waterfall trails closer to Lake Placid. High Falls Gorge, Whiteface mountain drive to the top, Tupper Lake Wild Center looks AWESOME and is about 40 minutes away. It's a low key destination where you really can relax if you want to. We loved it!

I'm here now and everything is open. Outdoor dining only but they have been open since Mid June for outdoor dining.
We've been eating out every night and for breakfast.
From what I can see they are doing great business too. I booked my reservations a month in advance and my shuttle driver said its almost impossible to get in anywhere without a reservation because of the limited seating since it's outdoor only.

Indoor dining isn't allowed yet in NJ. A shore bar was packed back in June so Murphy said no... I feel bad for the restaurants who are hurting from this.

Yes. I have to say they are being ingenuitive with the outdoor seating- doing the best they can to maximize the space. But this is their high season and many depend on the summer to carry them through the year since it's a ghost town down there in winter.
So it's awful for them to be at such a low capacity and I feel so bad.
But Cape May itself was packed No vacancy in any hotels, beaches packed, restaurants packed.

I was in Cape May and it was extremely packed on the beach. This was a weekend though so that may have added to it.
I would assume it would be the same in Wildwood.
The whole town was very packed.
I am sure Wildwood and the Boardwalk would be the same.
Everyone wore their masks where necessary but you don't see many masks on the beach once people are seated with their group.

It didn't bother me, but if crowds bother you I could see it being anxiety inducing
