Amazon boycott
Someone asked for more info so starting a new thread.
These are my personal beliefs, not looking to debate them. You do you. I’ve just been trying to think more about how I vote with my dollar on things that matter to me.
Here’s what makes me no longer wish to support amazon: -their ceo has made an absolute killing during the pandemic. I have not heard a single philanthropic or other activity that gives back to the world. He’s bill gates rich but does almost nothing. -they pay below livable wages and offered little to nothing for their front line workers who worked through the pandemic. -they spy on their employees to prevent unionization and fair wages -amazon pays almost nothing in taxes while making trillions in profits. -amazon hurts small businesses and reduces competition -amazon is accused of price gouging -I don’t like my own and society’s reliance on amazon. We don’t need everything in 2 days. It creates an on-demand consumer mentality that is bad for humanity and the planet. -I don’t trust what data they have on us (listening devices) and what they plan to do with it -their shipping/packaging and 2 day delivery is bad for the environment -I don’t like the concept of “too big to fail” and I think they are permeating every aspect of people’s lives. I don’t want to give any company that much knowledge/access/control over me.
I can’t say I will never order from them again. But I stopped prime and my subscribe and save and I’m really trying to be more selective.
Here’s an article that says it better than I can:
Here’s another link: Link Link
Tried to fix links. Not to be snarky but google why is amazon bad and a lot comes up!
I’m no longer interested in giving Home Depot or hobby lobby my money either. But I rarely shopped there so it’s a minor change.

Re: Amazon boycott
Ugh, I totally agree and I hate shopping with them but I am already so reliant on them for so much and they own so much already.
They own zappos and whole foods which I loved BEFORE they owned it. Oh and goodreads and the ring system. Plus, the quick and free shipping while being able to find whatever I need is so EASY. I want to keep watching a few of the prime originals the streaming service has. It's like a drug - I feel hooked! and I hate it.
I'm trying to find ways to use them less, and not get further into the hole but it is SO hard!!!
Any tips would be appreciated lol.
I don't have money to change my security system. I am trying not to watch any new prime shows so I can have a clean cut with that. I shop TJ more instead of WF. I try to order more with Target and smaller local stores when I can over amazon and zappos. But like I said, they are already such a monopoly and its just so easy its hard.
I just wish the government would force him to be a decent person and like actually pay taxes and do some good with just a tiny bit of his wealth. No one needs to be a mega billionaire like him. His family is set for the next thousands of generations....

I’m not going to debate any of the reasons people had except for the Taxes.
Our government set up the tax laws and how these coronations get taxed etc. so I don’t blame the corporations. I blame the government on that one!
Every large corporation does the same when it comes to taxes so don’t blame them. Blame Washington!!!

I won't debate politics, but I agree with the above.
Also, amazon made a killing during the pandemic and was able to legally price gouge (to some extent) because small businesses were forced to stay closed. Again, not necessarily amazon's fault.
It's a broken system. They are just one small part of it.

Re: Amazon boycott
I never liked Amazon anyway. I think they are more expensive, and I think people use them because of the Prime, and is more convenient I dont do a lot of online shopping, so to pay all that money for Prime is a waste for me. I actually like using Walmart.com. They are becoming the new amazon. I can find almost everything on the website, for free shipping.

This is fair. But somehow they seem to find more loopholes than others. This one might not be 100 percent fact but like I said these are my personal feelings.
I work for a fortune 50. We pay a ton of taxes. I personally pay a ton of taxes. So should mr bezsos.
I do think their size unfairly influences politics though. So while yes our laws should change, it’s big money donors and lobbyists who are writing the laws unfortunately. We need better politicians in both parties I totally agree!

I think you should keep doing what you are doing. My prime renewal came up and I was let me see if I can live without this and it wasn’t that hard. We are trying to save money overall and this helps prevent that prime impulse purchasing.

Re: Amazon boycott
I am totally with you.
I didn't buy from Amazon for months (maybe 6-7) and then I caved when I needed something I couldn't find elsewhere and I ran out of time.
I find that as long as I plan ahead and allow plenty of time, I don't need Amazon. I'm not going to beat myself up if I need them once in a while but there are ways to get what we need from others.
I definitely agree that the system is broken but that doesn't explain away all of their morally questionable practices and it doesn't mean we can't hold them to a higher standard and show them consequences for being greedy.

At least you eloquently stated your reasons with evidence. I wish I could live without supporting them.... maybe! I can try

Re: Amazon boycott
I have disliked them for so long! I remember saying a long time ago that people hated and boycotted Walmart for so many of the reasons you listed above but have / had no problems supporting Amazon.
I think about canceling them all the time. I use them mostly to ship things to my grandkids in Alaska. Since so many companies don't or if they do it cost a fortune
The things I get for myself I can absolutely get at a local store. And I haven't watched Prime in some time.

Re: Amazon boycott
PREACH!!!!
I am so done with them too! I ordered a pair of pajamas on June 17th and I got them last week. I actually forgot all about them! What am I paying Prime for? When the pandemic came, it was taking much longer than 2 days to get things. I understood the situation so I wasn't annoyed but I sure was pissed when I saw all the price gauging! So I'm paying $120 for two day shipping that is now taking a week and the thermometer I needed to replace, which was $42, is now $95? Are you serious??
I have the Red Card with Target. Its also free 2 day shipping and they do not price gauge. I'm not saying I will never order from them but I will just pay for shipping. I don't order enough to justify the $120 fee anyway.

Re: Amazon boycott
I''v NEVER order a single item from them, I'm not an online shopper to begin with. They pay $15.00 or more an hour from what my friend tells, which is more than min wage.
They should be paying taxes. AGREE 100% with the absurd insane mentality the human population has for same day, next day and two deliveries
much of society has become imo similar to infants and with the demand immediate satisfaction. This teaches kids the for at least the 15 years there is no needs to wait and lacking patience

Re: Amazon boycott
I haven't ordered for over a year. Mostly because they seem to sneakily enroll you in services you never intended to sign up for. I would see all these random low amount subscription charges. When I'd call to inquire, they'd tell me that I bought "prime videos" or "Amazon marketplace" purchases. Not sure if it was my kids, so I started locking the accounts. It was making me so mad that I cut them off.
