Wow, that is a LOT of money. If they even had to ask you, I doubt they have the financial wherewithal to ever pay you back. They probably did not qualify for a loan. Unless you cannot make ends meet without this sum of money, I think I would consider something like this a gift.
I have plenty of money to make ends meet and I wouldn't considering GIFTING $30k to anyone. They honestly should be embarrassed they haven't even made an attempt to try and repay their own SON that kind of money. It's not $100 or even $500.

This. I’d sooner live in a box then take that kind of money from my children.

You need to ask yourself what kind of parent asks his child for a huge sum of money like that. Then, considering that fact, would you really expect repayment? That's my point.

money lent to family
Kudos to you for not killing your husband or in laws. I would have called them myself at this point. If it were me I would tell your DH to call and tell them you need the money by a certain date and if he won’t then you do it. I would also personally be telling my DH he better get a second job or work serious overtime to put back all the money he loaned to his parents. No way would that go well with me. I’d end up divorced if my husband even entertained giving anyone that kind of money

I agree. I am not usually one to use the D word lightly but I am not sure my marriage would survive something like this. The sheer amount of money that we worked so hard for for our futures and for our children's future. Just gone to people who are clearly irresponsible. I am not sure I'd be able to get past that

I would make my DH hook on the streets until that money was returned. Turn tricks on street corners. B!tch better have my money but for real, there is no way I would or even could ever just consider that kind of money lost or gifted. I'm just not capable of letting something like that go. It would be a real problem. I would become a real problem. I can't believe anyone would do such a thing, and to their own child.
