scanning documents

has anyone decluttered paperwork by scanning everything?

if so, how did you do it?
did you buy a scanner and do it yourself or did you hire a company.
and...
if you hired a company, can you recommend the company you used?

Re: scanning documents

I haven't done it yet, but I am looking into it. Mostly I am shredding so there is less to scan.

I watched this video recently & she suggested apps such as Adobe Scan, Evernote & Genius Scan.

ETA: I probably woulnd't use a company for documents, for privacy reasons, but I might for photos if it would be a higher quality than what I can do myself.

Re: scanning documents

Just downloaded an app on my phone called Cam scanner. I take pics and upload it to my drive.

Re: scanning documents

I think the reality is you likely need less paper than you think.

Before spending the time or money, think critically on why you have the paperwork.

You only need tax returns for 7 yrs.
bank and credit card statements are available online.
What else are you storing that you actually need? (You might have legit reasons, just suggesting you think about it)

I signed up for paperless across the board and it really helped reduce it. I can be a hoarder with paper so preventing it from coming in was helpful for me.

I use an app called cam scanner. There is a free version and a paid version.

I use the free version. I like that I can save scans to pinterest, email them, save to a google drive, and more.

Re: scanning documents

If I need to scan anything I use my inkjet printer which has a scanning option. TBH though, I save next to nothing anymore, even past tax returns are saved on the computer through Turbo Tax. Anything else of importance I can access online. If you haven't already, I recommend signing up for as many paperless statements as possible and if there is any other paperwork you need to keep, get yourself an inexpensive printer with a scanning function. I also have a shredder for any important documents I want to get rid of. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: scanning documents

i've really been taking a critical look at all the STUFF in my home. i'm realizing that a lot of things are not NEEDED.

i will NOT give up my yarn. hands down. other than that, a lot of the things i own... i really don't need. i'm taking my time and working my way through minimizing.

last week, i got rid of two boxes and one large shopping bag full of craft supplies. i have no idea when i'll need silver glitter again, or seven foam brushes, or fabric markers, or google eyes.

i'm starting to evaluate the paper, now.
i am paperless on almost all my bills. i believe that my car insurance is the last one left.

i was thinking about old tax returns, my son's artwork from when he was little, and pictures. i guess i can do the tax returns myself. but i would like professional quality for the pictures. would love to make sure old family pictures aren't lost.

thanks for all the info, ladies.

There are services specifically for photos if you are willing to send them in:

https://www.toptenreviews.com/best-photo-scanning-services

I haven't used any of these yet. Also m if you have old family videos on VHS, there are places that will digitize them for you.
