i believe that websites in all states are a cluster!
once i got passed the "you don't qualify at this moment" block, i was refreshing non-stop and appointments would appear and then disappear immediately because someone else grabbed that one.
it was very frustrating.
if you have the time, remember that there are a lot of FB groups for vaccine hunters. these groups help you find places that might vaccine the general public - with leftover doses at the end of the day (missed/cancelled appointments). i tried it for los angeles, but it was more trouble than i was able to put into it... and then i became eligible.
Do they do this here NY even if you are not qualified yet? I heard of many no shows and cancellations. It's a shame as others are waiting

Supposedly may 1 all adults should be able to get it.
The roll out in NY is super slow. It’s frustrating when they are coming up with things vaccinated people can do but unvaccinated people cannot when a huge percentage of NYers can’t even get the damn thing.
NJ lowered their eligibility to include overweight people (not just obese) Along with smoking and other everyday illnesses. And you can go anywhere including pharmacies. But NY is a real shit show as per usual.
It's so slow. Many states are opening up to so many more people and it is sooo slow here.

Even if there are "no shows", the only leftovers at the end of the day are whatever is left of a particular vial. If a vial has not been opened and there are no more appointments that day, they will not open a new vial for someone who does not have an appointment. So the number of people that could get vaccinated without an appointment is very low (I think each vial holds 6 vaccines, so maybe about 1-3 "extra" vaccines per open vial and only a few potential open vials at the end of the day at any given location)

CHeck out Dr B. https://hidrb.com/ It's a vaccination standby list. You sign up and you go to the site where there are extra doses.

Yes. A fiend that wasn't eligible got hers last Friday at the end of the day, with left overs vaccines. Somehow she got to be on the waitlist. This was on east Harlem.
ETA: She also told me that another person without comobidities got an appt last Sunday through this website https://www.turbovax.info

Thank you. It's a shame as they had appointments for the next few days and I can't sign up if I wanted as I am not eligible. I have to search for the last minute ones

The best thing for standby appts is to call specific locations and ask them if they will have end of day standby / cancellation appts available.
Also join Long Island covid 19 vaccination information FB page for help. People post all day constantly and there are sometimes posts for locations that are allowing walk ins at end of day not to waste vaccines.
