What do you still use that DC think is "ancient"?

What do you use that your kids, or anyone else, thinks is "old"?
iPhone 3, VCR, manual car windows, tea kettle, etc.

I like keeping up with technology, so I'm not too far behind in anything. We do still use DVDs, but we also stream. I haven't gotten rid of my audio CDs yet, but I don't use them.

Pen and paper. My DH teases me all the time that I am the last person on the planet who uses pen and paper for anything. I am very visual so writing things down helps them stick in my head.

I also can't live without my electric tea kettle.

DS doesn't make fun of me on this one, he agrees with me, but the rest of my family makes fun of me for still using a regular pot to cook rice. everyone else says i should get a rice cooker/steamer.

I need to write stuff down by hand too. I can't focus if it's on the computer.
I need to see it in front of me and also write it out.

I do not have kids, but I teach college. Once in awhile I will bring a VHS to class, and it really creates some chaos and confusion. Chat Icon

All of my 9th and 10th graders request paper copies of assignments in lieu of doing things digitally so I think needing a hard copy of something is still a real thing. Retaining things is difficult in a digital environment. The muscle memory of writing is SO important.

That's interesting and ITA with you. My DD is in 7th, every single thing she does in school is online so I'm surprised to here that there are pen and paper kids left. Chat Icon

Mine never mention it but I use things on this list.
Paper and pen for almost everything. All my bills are in a notebook. My food shopping list is on paper. I use a wall calendar. We have a landline. I just have recently started using my phone for an alarm clock. I have one if those ancient ones you see on fb memes lol.

All of our students are the same way too. I think it's a combination of things - the muscle memory for sure but also a lack of computer skills.

They know how to use their phones but don't always know how to type, use Google Docs, etc. So they shy away from the computer.

Yes. My HSers have been taught computer skills at the MS level, but most have not retained any of it. I had to demonstrate how to click "enable edit" on a word document so that they could complete their assignment.

I prefer they have a hard copy as most can not manage the Zoom meeting and digital document simultaneously as their screens are so small.
