For those of you who vote no, do you understand how things work if the budget isn't passed? Teacher salaries are set in stone according to contracts. They will never be reduced. If the budget isn't passed, the only people that get screwed are the students. The first things that get cut are extracurricular programs that the students enjoy.
Very true and IME, the budgets are usually pass the 2nd time around so it is a waste of time unless their plan B is extremely better than plan A.
My kids don’t have an extracurricular activities as is!!! This year they did absolutely nothing and I am not happy with the way the school ran things.
I pay enough in taxes and I don’t need my taxes to go up to continue funding overpriced superintendents (cause we have several) and some
Head of departments when I see no benefits to students!

Yes, I do understand how it works. There are no extracurriculars. Where did the money earmarked for the cancelled extracurriculars go? Use that.

I agree but taxes will always go up. Unfortunately not always to benefit the students. I had many years where there were no after school buses and programs cut for my kids. It sucked.

Yes, I do understand how it works. There are no extracurriculars. Where did the money earmarked for the cancelled extracurriculars go? Use that.
Less taxes and to other things I am sure. Everything is always laid out, plan a and plan b for the public to see where the money is going to.

That’s exactly where the money goes in my district. It’s not going to the students. There would be nothing to fund for the students. They only brought them back to school full time a month ago. It’s padding the superintendent’s pockets.

It is impossible to maintain programming with a negative tax increase. The district was already cutting 2 admin and 19 staff positions. The budget didn't pass so now they will most likely will need to gut programming.

Yes! Most of the time it’s about who u know and what connections u have.
This, no question. I’m sure there are some districts who put the children first. That’s how it should be. But there are many whose boards are run by only those with their own self interest and political gain in mind.
Also, I actually couldn’t attend a board meeting. They are in the middle of the work day.

Your district is like the twilight zone - they have meetings in the middle of the day?!?!?! Every district I have ever lived or worked in has them either at 6 or 7 pm.

Your district is like the twilight zone - they have meetings in the middle of the day?!?!?! Every district I have ever lived or worked in has them either at 6 or 7 pm.
I could write a 6 page post on the insanity at every level.
Last week I get a phone call from the nurse to ask if I can pick DD up because she scraped her elbow. Not broken. Not crying. Tripped and fell and scraped her elbow. Tells me I “can take a look to see if it’s broken.” Aren’t you the nurse? You tell me if it’s broken. Where did you go to nursing school? Can she move her arm??
Today is early dismissal for parent teacher conferences (via zoom). The teacher emails this morning to say she’s waiting on covid results but is asymptomatic. Needs to cancel conferences. Zoom conferences. From her living room.
There are so many more, these have just been over the last 7 days.

School budgets go up because insurance and pension costs increase every year. The biggest expense for schools are the teacher benefits. Even with declining enrollment, our taxes in Commack went up every year. The superintendent blamed it on insurance and pensions.

In the past I always have but we moved to different district this year and I completely forgot it was happening. My kids are in Catholic school so it was kind of like out of sight out of mind. But normally I always vote yes

90% of our increase was just salaries and benefits. Millions.
