What is something your family does or did ...
... that you always thought was common for everyone and then discovered that it was actually uncommon for everyone else.
Here's my story:
When my FIL passed away, my SIL and I went to the florist to order flowers. My SIL said "we need to get flowers for the top of the casket". I said "But, are we doing a half-open casket or a full-open casket?" She says "Half-open, of course." The florist says "Only Italian-Americans do full-open."
I was like "Oh!". I literally had NO IDEA that it wasn't common in other families. Probably 99% of the wakes I have been to are full-open. And, I was around 45 years old when this happened!
(The thread on TV situations reminded me of this.)

That parents don't have a glass or two every night with dinner. LOL
Both my parents worked full time and every evening at around 7pm when we can all sit down to eat the two had a couple glasses of wine with dinner.

I had kind of the opposite thing- what other families did, but mine didn't. My family was a bit dysfunctional- lots of fighting until the divorce.
So, I remember being at a friend's house and the father came home from work and kissed the mother hello. Just like on TV!

I call both of my grandmothers "Grandma". To differentiate, I called them Grandma (last name). I never knew how weird that was until I realized most of my friends called their grandmothers either two different things like grandma and nana or they called them Grandma Mary and Grandma Rose. I don't know why we were so formal.

LOL! Nothing wrong with that. I don't every night, but probably a good 3 - 4 nights a week. Def on the weekends. Funny thing is when my son was around 2 and my parents came over to babysit first thing he said when my mom walked in was... Hi Grandma, where's the wine? LOL! Even my kids know it's the norm or we do neighborhood happy hours.

Put cream cheese and butter on bagels. I thought this was normal until I told my husband (then boyfriend) my bagel order and he thought it was very weird.

My dad was a mechanic. so after a hot day he would come home, take a shower and eat dinner in his underwear. Never did it occur to me that this was odd.
