What is the most amazing fact you know?
Do you know any amazing facts that most people don't know?
Scientifically, strawberries aren't berries, but bananas and watermelon are.

Re: What is the most amazing fact you know?
I wouldn't say amazing or even how true it is, but I remember on a trip to Arizona the guide showed us a fossil and said something to the fact that if the earth's lifetime is 24 hours then dinosaurs have been on the earth for about an hour of the 24 and humans not even a full second.
Could be quoting it wrong, but when I've retold it people are fascinated (if it's true LOL)

Re: What is the most amazing fact you know?
I can tell you stuff about consonant shifts (Grimm’s and Verner’s laws). I’m not an expert, though.
Father Vader (Dutch) Vater (German)
All mean the same thing (father). You can see how /v/ went to /f/ and /d/ went to /t/ and then to /th/. There is a lot more to be said about it, but that’s a basic explanation. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it in many other words.
I also knew the phonemic alphabet by heart at one time. I can’t be bothered with it, but I could easily relearn it quickly.

So funny, my 8 yr old son literally told me this last week. I had to look it up to see if it were true.

DS loves etymology, language shifts, etc. He's often talking about where words started from, why similar words didn't always come from the same origin, why words changed meanings, etc.

Close.
Dinos about an hour, and humans just over a minute.
