Outdoor sofa
I love look of outdoor sofas and chairs with the coffee table, but I wonder if it’s a hassle. If you have a set like this, how do you handle it when it rains? I can see forgetting to bring in the padded cushions or not being home to do it.
How do they hold up with rain?

I am too lazy to deal with that so I just have a wicker set with no cushions. My parents have cushions and they put a cover over it every night or when not using it. Works well for them.

Re: Outdoor sofa
I would assume the cushions are made out of an outdoor material and would be fine to leave out all season. I don't have a full sofa but I have a conversation set with chairs that have padded cushions and they are fine outside

Re: Outdoor sofa
You either get a waterproof cover for the sofa and remember to cover it when not using it, or you store the cushions away from the elements when not in use (like in the garage or shed)
You * can* leave them outside all the time, but they’ll wear out faster and need to be replaced sooner.. And also, they take time to dry out so if it rains the night before you probably won’t be able to sit on them the next day.

I used to just leave them out. Material is supposed to be made to be left outside however My MIL always brought the cushions in which I never really understood for This year we had something built over our patio so the furniture is fully covered.

I have one set under my covered patio so I leave those cushions out all the time. I have another set that is not covered and I put the cushions in a deck storage box when we’re not using it.

That's what I do for my outdoor cushions. We have a plastic deck box that the cushions from the chairs around the table fit into nicely.
Yes, the cushions can handle being outdoors, but like someone mentioned, if they get wet, they take a while to dry, and they fade/age faster. The storage bin is right next to the chairs, so it only takes a minute or so to set them up.

Re: Outdoor sofa
We got those big boxes from Costco where we keep the cushions. It's a pain if it rains to quickly get them and put them in the box and sometimes the end of the night when it's late and maybe drank too much... LOL Once in a while we do leave them out, which isn't a big deal if we know it won't rain or anything.

I got a nice set at Walmart and bought some HUGE covers at Ocean State Joblots in north bab. I am too lazy to take up cushions until September when I pack away.

Re: Outdoor sofa
Ours has always been covered by our porch but I thought these were meant to be outside, at least in the summer. We can unzip ours and throw in the wash but never take them in all year long as we like to sit on the porch in any weather.

I have a "custom made" cover for my outdoor sectional - it's heavy duty but easy to take off and put back on. I left the furniture and cushions out, covered, all winter and everything was completely fine when I took the cover off for the first time this season
For the chaise lounge cushions, I have one of those deck boxes

We have a wicker set with cushions. When I know it will rain, I will take the cushions off and place them in the shed.

Re: Outdoor sofa
This is a constant battle at my house lol.
I want to leave the cushions out so that the yard looks like and set up, and DH wants to bring the cushions in so that they don't get wet/wear too quickly.
We got an outdoor storage bin as a sort of middle ground.

I have an outdoor conversation set. I had deck boxes that I keep the cushions in. I remove them after use since the sprinklers would get them wet every day. Not that much of a hassle.

Re: Outdoor sofa
We usually only leave the cushions out when we're actively outside. Sometimes we forget to put them back but they're pretty durable. I think we got our cushions from Home Depot and Christmas Tree Shop? We do have a storage box that we use for the pillows when not in use.

I have sunbrella cushions that came with the set. I keep them covered with a waterproof cover. It's a giant one so I cover it with one cover.
They have been in soaking rain a few times... and depending on how hot it is, it sometimes takes a while for them to dry out.
But pretty much they are covered unless we are going to use them.

Re: Outdoor sofa
I have an outdoor sofa, chairs coffee table, end tables lounge chairs for 12 years
I have never left the cushions out overnight. every fall we have the furniture shrink wrapped. the cushions are stored in the attic and during the summer in a large closet in mud room.
My set is from restoration hardware and in pristine condition.
One trick is me and my husband set up the cushions before guests come over, and then at the end of the night everyone helps bringing in the cushions so it isn't to bad.

we have a half moon sectional that is a wicker material. The cushions will get stored in the garage in the winter, but we have a cover that goes over the sectional throughout the summer when it rains to protect the outdoor cushions
