Weird situation with neighbor
We have a neighbor at our summer house that is a little strange, but always means well. She asked me to come over the other day to talk about a couple of things. One of which was that they were given a GC to a local general store that was really large, and they wanted us to help them use it up. They told us to go get a few of the gourmet pizzas. I am pretty sure she meant it as a gift, but I am not certain. I am going to go use it in a few minutes. When I give her the card back should I just thank her or should I offer her the cash for the amount we used? I don't want to offend her if she meant it as a gift but I am not 100% sure it was a gift. We are not close AT ALL.

I would say it is a gift and if you feel comfortable, maybe invite them over to enjoy the pizza and maybe get to know them more.

I would offer the cash when I gave the card back. More than likely she won't accept/want it, but I would feel weird not offering.

That is weird. Do you have to get pizzas? Is it a pizza shop? What happens if you get something else? Do they need to see that you got pizzas?

That is weird but a nice offer.
So they weren't making the pizzas when we just went. We got sushi and some wine and used up $85. I put the receipt and the $85 with the gift card and told her we used $85 and that the cash was in with the card and explained we couldn't get pizzas. She took it all back. I guess it wasn't meant to be a gift. She said she wanted us to try the pizza so she would know how it was! Very odd but she is older and strange. Their house is going on the market in the next week or so so no desire to get to know them better! lol Hoping a nice family moves in.

This is so odd. Why did you even need the GC to do her a favor? Then she should have said that. Lol. You are a good sport.

That is so friggan weird. So basically she wanted you to buy a gift card off of her. Good riddance!

Ugh that's awkward.
Like other's said- guess she wanted cash instead of the gift card and this was the way of exchanging some of it for some cash.

Yes the whole thing was so weird. I am so glad I gave her the cash bc I can only imagine how awkward it would have been if I hadn’t. She’s really strange. When we first bought our house the very first day we were here with our very young children (2,4,6) she walked in our back door, uninvited, and proceeded to tell my kids that here on Martha’s Vineyard there is no crying unless there’s an emergency. Since that I have always kept my distance. Just happy they are trying to sell. For the past 8’years I’m always on edge when my children aren’t quiet.

I’d be so annoyed because it sounds like what she did was very manipulative. Hopefully you get normal neighbors.
