There is so much negativity in the world - POST ALL ABOUT YOUR GOOD DEEDS
The world is filled with doom and gloom, I for one would love to hear about all things positive. A good deed or act of kindness should never go unnoticed, it should be celebrated as the world needs more good humans in it!
Post your good deeds and kind acts no matter how small they may be, give yourself a pat on the back for helping others!!

Re: There is so much negativity in the world - POST ALL ABOUT YOUR GOOD DEEDS
I hate seeing books, especially children's literature, go to waste so I always donate all of the children's books my kids no longer read to libraries, day care centers, schools etc. I like knowing they will continue to be enjoyed by others.
I always donate my kids winter coats and snow gear, so many children don't have a warm coat to get them through the winter and that makes me sad.
Any time a store is collecting for a charity I will always throw in a little something on my bill or "round up" for charity on my online purchases.
At the holidays I LOVE to participate in the "wish trees". Christmas is my favorite time of year so anything that I can do to make a child's holiday a little brighter and happier brings me such joy. Making wishes come true for a small child makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I donate clothing and toys every 3-6months. I also volunteer my time with homeless shelters from time to time. Although there is that misconception that everyone on Long Island is well off, I know it’s not peaches and cream for a lot of people and I enjoy helping people whenever I can.

My friend is starting a grass roots movement in Scouting to make make Scouting more inclusive for children with Special Needs. I'm on his committee, so I get front-row seats on what he's doing. He's already create a Troop for Scouts with Special Needs that weren't able to fit in a traditional Troop. They need aides and/or parents with them all the time, and they aren't able to run the troop on their own like a traditional troop. We've been going for not quite a year yet. The kids have been camping, several field trips, and learned some Scout Skills. They're having a great time, in an environment that supports and encourages them.
He is also working on traditional Troops that have Scouts with various neurodiversities. ADHD, social anxiety, etc. He's creating a training course, and trying to spread information about how to work with each kid's strengths, and not focus on their disability.
It's amazing seeing the difference in kids when a slight change in environment and how a troop operates is put in place. I've seen kids go from almost non-verbal from anxiety to voluntarily standing in front of a group, and leading a group of kids.

This is really wonderful!! What a gift to those children, such small things make such a big difference!!

Re: There is so much negativity in the world - POST ALL ABOUT YOUR GOOD DEEDS
Doesn't everyone donate the clothes that their kids have outgrown? What else would you do with them? Throw them out? Burn them?
TBH I find time to be the biggest asset you can donate to anything. I have been active in a bunch of charities throughout the years but currently I am only actively involved in helping out with my school district. I would like to get more involved in some charitable organizations that are important to me once the time allows.
We also donate a decent amount of money to charities but that never really makes me feel like I am doing much since it's so impersonal. But I guess money does help a lot.

I agree with you, money is great but time is invaluable if you have it to donate.
I've always wanted to donate my time to children's hospitals, I'd love to spend time with the kids playing games and reading with them. I'm sure it cannot be easy being in a hospital all day, every day away from their peers so it would be nice to spend time with them and brighten their day a little. Things at the hospitals are still a little COVID crazy but maybe once that settles down it's something I can finally do.

ITA, it's great that you've donated time in the past, and still donate in the school district. Thank you for that. Money is always needed, but time is so much more valuable, IMHO.
Even if people can't dedicate ongoing time to charities, helping out during a "fun run", helping with one-time events or fundraisers, etc is a huge help.

Absolutely! Especially nonprofits on LI that aren't partnered with big funders. https://www.volunteermatch.org/ is a great resource to find places that are doing work that's meaningful to you where you can volunteer your time, services, skills as your way of contributing to the greater good. https://www.volunteermatch.org/
