Help! 7th grade boy!

Are they all so emotional?!
I don't know what to do. He's 12 and just so emotional. Anything sets him off.
He has lots of friends, plays sports (not the best, but plays soccer and basketball rec for fun), plays trumpet in the band, hangs out with friends a lot...
BUT he is just so sensitive.
He's small for his age so I'm thinking... I hope he's starting puberty bc he needs to grow. LOL
He was diagnosed with sensory issues when he was little. Expressive and receptive delays, but he outgrew a lot of that.
He's on honor roll too.
He just will be fine one moment and then ready to cry the next. or gets anxious, or worried over things.

I don't know what to do. It seems normal, but I don't know. I can't blame it on his period, but I feel like he gets it. LOL

Are they all like this. One moment happy and the wind blows. He's not aggressive at all but does this thing where he looks like he'll cry and just needs a moment.
Ugh! I need an exorcist sometimes!! LOL

Re: Help! 7th grade boy!

My son is 14 and my daughter is 12. My daughter was like that a bit at age 9. She dances, plays trumpet, is in honors, and had all A/A+ in sixth grade. She is my moodier kid of my two, and puts a lot of pressure on herself. I took her to therapy in third grade. She is much better at understanding her emotions now and I really feel that the therapist gave her ways to help cope with her changing emotions. My son does not cry but will get a little moody. I can generally tell he will have a growth spurt when he is a little moody, but his base emotional state is happy and content. Have you taken him for therapy? It can help him discover a way to handle his emotions. Boys do go through puberty even though it looks different from what girls go through.

I think that's it. He just needs to work on his emotions and how to handle them. I try my best with breathing exercises with him. Half the time he doesn't even know why he gets emotional. I just think horomones and all. Plus he's already sensitive to begin with.

Help! 7th grade boy!

Just wanted to chime in and say I’m right there with ya sista! This raising a pre teen 12 year old boy is quite ‘interesting’ to say the least. Woah baby! This is some wild ride, I’m holding on real tight. The mood swings, the ‘I know everything in the world already’ attitude. O yeah, and did you know us parents don’t know anything?! (Says said 12 year old) LOL

Ha ha!! yes! The rest of the day he was in a great mood when he came home. I'm like... if the wind blows the wrong way he can get moody. Damn hormones.
Oh, and yes... the eye rolling and drama.

It's the age. I can relate, my son is very similar to yours. On the daily I say "I hate middle school!" I feel like I live with a little mental patient! One minute he's the best kid in the word, the next I find myself crying wondering where my sweet baby went. It's not easy.

Re: Help! 7th grade boy!

Thank you all! So sounds like emotional puberty age. I started telling him we're cutting out some sugar bc maybe that would help. LOL
He's been fine the last 3 days so I have praised him for not being an emotional mess.
It's insane how one moment he's great and the next he's quiet and upset over something minuscule.

Re: Help! 7th grade boy!

I would suggest taking him to a therapist. It could just be puberty but that is still a whole range of emotions. Talking to someone never hurts but always helps.
