Spinoff to Butterball Turkey
With all the media talking about how much more expensive Thanksgiving will be this year, has anyone started getting stuff and notice you are paying more?
I don't know what we are doing for Thanksgiving yet and I usually just make a side dish so it usually doesn't cost me much. I used to get a Turkey too from work as well as my husband but not sure if they are doing that this year if we decide to eat at home.

Re: Spinoff to Butterball Turkey
I do believe the restaurant we are eating at raised their per person price. When I called to reserve she mentioned the price and I THINK it was a bit more than last year. But i don't really remember exactly what it was last year.

Spinoff to Butterball Turkey
We usually go to a family member's house but we do have our own Thanksgiving over the weekend.
We got our turkey for free from Shop Rite for spending $400 - I haven't gotten anything else yet but I do feel that we hit our $400 a lot quicker than we have ever had. And I have been limiting my trips to Shop Rite.

I'm way too lazy to cook and host. I did it one year and never ever again. My parents do Christmas so they enjoy taking us out for Thanksgiving. It's so lovely and so easy. It's become our new tradition.

That's really nice. Yeah, it is a lot of work for a short amount of time eating.

Re: Spinoff to Butterball Turkey
Groceries, in general, have been more expensive ever since COVID. At this point, it is what it is. I'll still be making all of my traditional Thanksgiving favs even if it costs a little more.

I have a budget that I try to stick with every week and it is getting harder and harder. With a teen and husband who eat me out of house and home, I am lucky I will eat almost anything as I buy mostly everything for them.

Add to that a husband who only eats organic food, grass fed beef, and everything healthy and forget it. I always find it sad that the the healthy foods are so expensive. For example- you can buy shittty oil like vegetable oil, dirt cheap but better oils like Avocado and olive oil are so expensive. He buys Lily's chocolate as a treat because they are "cleaner" and have no sugar- and I almost died when I saw the price of one bar compared to say a Hershey bar. That's why this country has so many health issues- it' really is cost prohibitive to buy healthful foods. And if you aren't well off, you really can't afford the better quality foods. And that's not a Covid or supply chain issue- that's always been like that. It's definitely sad.

So very true. My husband is trying to cut down on sugary items too and it is hard to find anything that he will like that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. You would think with covid, teaching the public how to eat better and trying to get prices down for healthier things would be a bigger issue.

Absolutely. I try to shop sales and get a little at a time. The items I buy haven’t been on sale by much so I’d say I’m spending about 25% more than I have previous years Not just food, but paper goods as well.

Yes. My company does a Thanksgiving food drive and they donate the food and gift cards we collect to Long Island Cares. They dropped off the donations yesterday and Long Island Cares said that there are 14,000 families on their list requesting food assistance this holiday season. They said they are seeing a lot more requests for help. It's a good time to donate if you can.

Yes I always donate for my local high school who stand in front of the stores. Every little bit helps and probably even more this year.

For sure. A friend does a food drive through her church year round and extra for the holidays. I wait to see what she needs most of and purchase those items. If I don’t have time, I Venmo her $ to get stuff. But this year will have to be a little less than what I normally do.

Same here! Usually I hit it the weekend before Thanksgiving and I hit it this past weekend. I have only gone grocery shopping 3x in the past 6 weeks or so. I've been trying to use up what is in my freezer. So, yes, things are definitely up in price.
I noticed the mushrooms I usually buy for $1.99 were $3.49 last week. That's a big increase.
