Switching internet/cable providers question
If you've switched internet/tv providers, how did you go about canceling the service with the old provider?Did you just call to cancel once the new service was installed or did you call ahead of time and cancel effective when you knew the installation date of the new provider would be?

Switching internet/cable providers question
In our case, something had happened to our cable or internet and my husband got really annoyed with Optimum. So, he called and cancelled! This was in the middle of Covid when my daughter was doing school at home every other day! I was so annoyed with him! We went about a week without internet.
So, I recommend getting set up first and then cancelling! LOL!

Ok thanks! Seems like wherever you go there are problems. We are with Verizon now paying $220 a month for regular cable tv no premium channels, internet (which isn't that fast) and phone.... Our DVR just stopped working and now they are telling us we have to pay more to upgrade our boxes... so that was kind of our last straw. I know optimum probably has its issues too but I made sure to ask that there is no contract lol.

Re: Switching internet/cable providers question
We have switched from Optimum to Verizon, back to Optimum. Verizon was no cheaper and I didn't like their channels (as much as I don't care for News12, I missed it).
We pay $157/month for TV and Internet. No special channels (HBO/SHO, etc).

You can now get News12 on Fios. I guess enough people complained about missing it so they have it on Fios now. I don't watch it though because I feel like it's the same loop over and over and over. But it's good for the local weather

Switching internet/cable providers question
Start the service of the new company before cancel the old and ensure of an overlap for a day or 2.
Regarding pricing, tradtional cable and boxes is starting to become a thing of the past. I wish we cut the cord earlier in life but 2 years into this, we don't miss it. No boxes rentals, no modem rentals. I pay for 1 gig service 70 dollars. After you get your service, choose from many providers depending on your TV and recording habits. We choose Youtube TV. Hulu, sling all work great. Just find the price, package good for you. All of them you can try for a week. For me with TV back in the day, never completely about price. Verizon set up is great while Optmimum has struggled for years. My internet in 15 years with verizon, probally less then 6 hours total. So between internet/tv, i pay 135. I can watch home, phone anywhere. We all in our house have our own profiles to just record what we want as oppose to seeing everyone shows. Plenty of news sources to replace NEWS12 if your into that. You can always pay News12/Cablevision on the side for direct access.. just like Netflix, HBOMAX, etc...

Yeah I heard that. I just didn't like it and at this point, we would have to change our email address too which we have had forever. lol

Yes, basically the streaming companies are the new cable companies. I feel you save as you don't rent boxes, modems (you can), depending on platform unlimited DVR.

It depends what you want/have. Some house holds that have 4 boxes and DVR can be paying up to 60 just in fees for the boxes. Everyboby situation is different.
Internet speed, everybody has a difference. For work, gaming, multi devices etc.., i have 1 gig service. most can probally live with half of that. I also share my TV with my mom so she completely got rid of cable :) and i just pay what i would of paid.
