All This Controversy Over Adopting Babies....
i have to say a big "shame on you" to all those of you rolling your eyes and saying that adopting babies (from wherever) is a "trend" among Celebs.....
we do NOT know their reasons for adopting.... i cant see how adopting a child could ever be considered a "trend". a child is NOT a handbag, its not shoes.... its not an impulse "buy"... it requires alot of thought, dedication and a lifelong commitment....
it a completely selfless act.
maybe you consider it a "trend" because more and more celebs (how do you know it isnt the same amount of non-celebs going the adopting route these days?) decide to adopt doesnt mean they are copying other celebs.... perhaps it opened their eyes to it, and made them think about that option which they may have never thought about had the previous person adopt.... just maybe.
i think ppl should STOP critizing celebs over something like adoption! i'm sorry, but i think it is petty. i think rather than sayign their following a "trend" or whathaveyou....
shouldnt the REAL IMPORTANT thing be that a homeless child was given the chance to a good life ????????!!!!!!!!!!
i'm sorry, i dont mean to be a bytch, but i hope some ppl can agree with me here. i think its an amazing act rather than a trend. i dont care if every celeb decides to adopt, i say GOOD FOR THEM AND THEIR BABIES!

Re: All This Controversy Over Adopting Babies....
excellent point.
but I think it is completely unfair that Madonna was able to adopt a baby from a county that DOES NOT ALLOW FOREIGN ADOPTION because she gave them tons of $$$$.
WHat about all the other americans that have been waiting years to adopt??
I dont think celebrities should jump the line bc they have tons of $$

In reference to the above statement, I agree with you completely. I think it is wonderful that celebrities have the opportunity to give a homeless child a good life esp. when I dont see people running in line to adopt from Africa. Having money doesn't give a person a good life.....but, it certainly Helps! Does being a celebrity/money give them priority in certain cases? Yes and I don't see anything wrong with that.
But, when I heard that Britney wanted to adopt....well, Im not a fan of her...which is why I wrote "no comment" on my reply. She just seems too immature. Is that me being judgemental? Yes. She probably is a good mother....I am just not a fan.
You did make a good point about awareness. But, no one truly knows one's motivation....adopting as a trend or not. But, I hope and pray that they are adopting for valid reasons other than a chance to boost their celebrity ratings.

A lot of Americans are not running to africa to adopt. There are about 1 million homeless children (do not quote me on the numbers...but I read this somewhere) in Africa. And if that were the case, the majority of them would be adopted. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think Madonna was adopting from a Country that does not allow foreign adoption.
I also read somewhere that Madonna is donating money to open up an orphanage. I think that is a wonderful Gesture! Celebrities with money does have it's perks and she seems to be paying it forward.

Re: All This Controversy Over Adopting Babies....
I posted about Britney and it being a fad... I posted what was said on the news. I also feel for her its a rush decision or a fad like the news said because she just had one..and seems to have a hard enough time. I know children aren't accessories..I have a couple of them., The news was just saying we have homeless children here, I also feel its unfair that anyone else has to spend time in Africa before adopting and its waived for someone with money. it was not meant as a heartless post.

It is very difficult to adopt in the US -- ask some of the ladies on the adoption board. That is why they go overseas.

you are wrong - The country (Malawi?) does NOT allow foreign adoption - the authorities "made an exception and pushed it through" for her after she donated to open the orphanage.
she should have went thru the proper channels, thats all.
and the father was supposedly told that the baby went to a "Christian woman" who is a famous singer. he was never told it was Madonna. And since when are Kabbalists christian?

Yep, you're right. But, unfortunately, here in the US we are PRO biological mom and dad. Meaning that when you adopt here in the U.S., the biological parents have more rights here then in any other country. Sadly, I think this is a deterrant from adopting here in U.S. Families fear that after raising the child for a few years that they will be taken away from them. I would like to see some laws changed in that area.

I agree with this. My youngest daughter cannot have children and plans to adopt overseas when she is ready because of the reasons you just stated.
