Spinoff to Dani's shot question...
When I interviewed the pediatrician she told me that some parents choose to spread out the immunizations more than 1x/month because they've heard too many at one time *might* be a factor in autism. Has anyone heard of that or follow that rule? The pedi told me she'll do whatever the parents request.

I have heard of that also but only to determine which shot the baby has a reaction too. I also heard that most doctors dont like giving all the shots at the same visit but the insurance companies make them do it.

Re: Spinoff to Dani's shot question...
my pediatrician only gives 2 shots a month they get 1 well visit a month until I think it was 6 months then it is once every 2 months and they still get 2 shots per visit.
My sister in law's pediatrician gave 3 or 4 sshots in a visit and her daughter always got high fevers and would get sick for a week after that so I am glad mine only does the two.

Re: Spinoff to Dani's shot question...
My understanding is that the increase in autism was attributed to thimerosal, which was removed from most vaccines a few years ago. Of course additional studies then indicated that thimerosal isn't a problem. Man, being a parent is hard.
If you trust your pediatrician, I'd ask what he/she would do for his/her own children. Personally, I'm more scared of the chance of the disease to delay the vaccine from the CDC recommendations, but thats my choice...

Same here. I will delay his MMR shot until he's 2, everything else will be given at pedi recomendation.

This was my exact reason for asking the question. I am a special ed teacher and have worked with the autistic population for 3 years in the past. I have been doing a lot of research on this and feel that there is not enough evidence to rule out the fact that thimerosal causes autism. In fact, i feel like there is quite a bit of evidence pointing to the fact that it does have a relation to it. All children with autism show high levels of mercury in their systems...so for me I do not want to take any chances. My child will receive the shots he/she needs but they will be very spread out......i'm refusing the hepatitis B shot because I do not feel it is necessary for an infant. i didn't have that shot until I was in 10th grade. I also read that the levels of mercury in that shot are enough for a 250 pound person. Hey...i don't know...it till hasn't been proven but i've heard enough to be cautious.....this is actually my biggest concern when interviewing pediatricians. I'm going to see if I can find some of the articles I read on it.
ok....here are some articles http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2005/06/16/thimerosal/index_np.html

Dani - since you've done so much research, what do you want your immunization schedule to be like? 1 shot per month? I would spread it out also so let me know
