Re: So Dissapointed at DD's Father- Vent
I am so sorry you are going through this
He needs to wake up and realize he has a beautiful child, and if he doesn't make the effort he will end up regretting it one day. Some people unfortunately don't realize what a blessing they have. I hope things turn around and he wakes up for your sake and your daughters...

Re: So Dissapointed at DD's Father- Vent
Good for you. If you don't do this, he will always try to get out of something. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I just don't understand how some men can be. I just hope he steps up one day and has a great relationship with his daughter because it will be her that suffers the most. It's just very sad.
Of course I was much older (around 10 yrs old), but when my father left my mother, I never saw him. We just started to have some what of a relationship at 21 years, but it's still hard to forget him dropping us.
I feel for you. Hang in there!!! You're doing the best you can.
Just remember, you the best mommy a little girl can have!!

He does not have to be on the birth certificate to support her financially. At this point, I wouldn't even put him on. If he wanted to, he would get his arse in gear and get his name on that certificate! Also, if you HAVE to, I would take him to court for child support. He will most likely have to pay more than you would ask him for anyway (if he has a good paying job).

I am sorry. Your little girl deserves better. I would try and talk with his sister, maybe she can help.

Re: So Dissapointed at DD's Father- Vent
So ironically, on my way to the child support place, he text messaged me (after I specifically told him that I do not want to discuss visitation via text message). He said he wanted me to drop her off at his mother's house on Sunday and that all of his family was going to be there. I can only gather to guess that his reason is because his family had asked if she would be there. I asked him if HE was going to be there and he said he had something to do with his car and he would eventually be there. I told him I'm not dropping her off if he won't be there because what's the point of spending father's day with her father but yet her father isn't there
They prepared the petiton for paternity and child support and he was basically trying to convince me to leave and not go through the Court. Sorry, too late for that! I really had thought about leaving too, but I just know that I would be dealing with the same thing next month so it was just best to get it out of the way!

He does have to be on the birth certificate to take him to Court for child support and have it enforced through them (I work for a Law Firm). That's the only reason I'm going today because otherwise there is no way to get him to pay. At least this way they will garnish his wages.
We were going to do all of this outide of court and he was paying $200 a week and I told him he is responsible for 50% of child care. The child support stopped last week when the BC issue came up.
Now since it's going to court and since he makes substantially more money than me, he will be responsible for more than 50% of the childcare since according to one of the lawyers at work, it's calculated on a pro-rata basis.
Thanks for the replies everyone :)
Off I go, ugh!
I don't know who told you that he has to be on the birth certificate to get child support - but that is absolutely FALSE!! The paternity petition will result in him either admitting he is the father OR having a DNA test to prove he is the father - NEITHER of which will result in his name going on the birth certificate.

Good for you for sticking to your guns! I would definately pursue all of this through the court since he definately does not sound trustworthy.
I am so sorry that you and your beautiful daughter have to go through this

Re: So Dissapointed at DD's Father- Vent
I wish you much luck!! Its better to just go thru the courts and get the child support order cuz you never know what could happen down the road.
Not to say that this will happen to you - but my sons father played alot of games after our son came along - he even got himself fired from his job of 15 years to avoid child support - luckily I had already been to court with him 2 days before he lost the job so the order was already in place.
This was 8 years ago and they still hold him to that order and he has no job to speak of.
Good luck to you!
ETA: he even had to sell his house to make up the payments cuz he got himself so far behind - it was pay or go to jail.

Re: So Dissapointed at DD's Father- Vent
So sorry you're going through this and I hope it gets better. It's really unbelievable what people will do to avoid giving up their money. I do this for a living and I had to have a father put in jail b/c he violated so many orders and refused to pay and he like the AP said sold off businesses etc to make it look like he had no more money. It's so sad that it took the handcuffs clicking in Family Court for the seriousness of it to sink in. They were a middle class family and the mom and kids ended up evicted and going to the church pantry for school supplies while he was living it up owning his own restaurants and starting a new family.
