Re: Girls who exercised before becoming pregnant
I was going to the gym pretty frequently, and tried to continue in the first few months.
The only reason I haven't gone in a month is pure lack of time.......I know it's lame excuse, I promised I would go back.
What's HIIT?

Re: Girls who exercised before becoming pregnant
What's HIIT?
It's High Intensity Interval Training. I love it! I am going to miss it.
ooooo, that's sounds awesome!
I told DH after the baby was born that I want to get a trainer again for a few months.
Congratulations by the way!!!!
ETA:
Oh, and speak to your doctor about continuing any program, he/she may not want you doing certain things.
You shouldn't lift more than 20 or 25 lbs, do crunches, jumping, but speak to your doc.

Re: Girls who exercised before becoming pregnant
You can totally keep up whatever you are doing, with the exception of heavy weights, and doing anything on your back after three months. I went to my last spin class one month before ds was born. My belly was hitting the bar! Wish the same was true this pregnancy!!! I highly recommend Yoga too, it was great both times around (prenatal yoga)

Re: Girls who exercised before becoming pregnant
My Dr. said that he wouldn't advise running, although I've read that if you did it before, you could probably do it while pregnant...at least until it is still comfortable to run. There was some famous runner that trained a lot while pregnant too, but I forget her name!!
I myself have stopped running and just stuck to the eliptical machine and the stationary bike (which I'm not a big fan of but its better than doing nothing!) I've also only done arm weights and no crunches. So I've toned it down a lot b/c before I was seeing a PT 2-3 times a week and doing lots of cardio on top of that (I was trying to get in really good shape for my wedding and I got pregnant 2 months after my wedding)
But check w/your Dr. and see what he approves but defiinely don't stop working out completely. I've done 45 minutes on the eliptical very easily, even on a high setting, now at 32 weeks. Wish I could do more but I'm too afraid!

Re: Girls who exercised before becoming pregnant
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was swimming nearly 1 mile per day and continued into my pregnancy. I have heard running might not be a good idea. And many doctors have said not to lift more than 10 pound weights. Keep walking until you can talk with your doctor.

Re: Girls who exercised before becoming pregnant
Here is an excerpt that I read online regarding keeping your heartrate down:
Monitor your heart rate and breathing. As a general rule, your heart rate should not exceed 140 beats/minute. The fetal heart rate is tied to your own; if your heart is racing, your baby's is too. A heart rate monitor, at around a hundred dollars, is a worthwhile investment. Most feature an alarm that sounds if you exceed the safe target range. If you feel breathless, which is common during the first trimester, slow down or take a break. The first three months are an adjustment period, when your blood volume is initially too low to accommodate both you and a growing fetus- this can result in breathlessness and faintness. Adjust your exercise levels accordingly.

Re: Girls who exercised before becoming pregnant
I didn't and I should have...but once she comes (1 week) I'll be back full force in the gym. I just wanted to enjoy the time and not worry about weight gain..etc.

I bought a heart rate monitor - it was a godsend. As you get further along in your pregnancy, your doctor will let you know how high your heartrate can go. By the 2nd trimester, he was comfortable was me exercising as long as I kept my heartrate under 160.

Re: Girls who exercised before becoming pregnant
I had already given up on my trainer who was bulking me with weights but I did plan on continuing walking 3-4 miles a day. My morning sickness was so awful that it was impossible and then because of some minor complications, I was told to stop altogether and just take a walk up and down the block

Re: Girls who exercised before becoming pregnant
When I got pregnant I was working out 5 days a week. Three early mornings and two evenings. I was able to continue that until I got into my 6th week and morning sickness hit. It was a struggle for me to get out of bed and make it through the work day much rather then go to the gym. I was so sick in the mornings that the evenings were the only time I could go and from weeks 6 through 10 I was only able to go like twice a week. I am finally starting to feel better so the past two weeks I have gone three times. The doctor told me to keep my heartrate no higher then 140. So I bought a really good heart rate monitor. She also said not to lift weights more then 20 lbs. I think if you were active before you can still be after pregnancy. My doctor told me to listen to my body. If I don't feel well not to work out. If I felt better to go. Check with your doctor first.

Re: Girls who exercised before becoming pregnant
I was a runner, but I started doing elyptical, hiking on treadmill, and bike instead.
Just watch the weights because you don't want to strain your stomach area. I'm 24 weeks and still doing elyptical 4 times a week.
ETA I stopped working out for 7 weeks when morning sickness hit, but started up again when I felt better.

Re: Girls who exercised before becoming pregnant
I exercised throughout most of my pregnancy (I think I stopped at around 8 months because of pain in my lower back). The thing about not getting your heartrate up above 140 is not gospel; I think if you have a healthy pregnancy and you've exercised regularly before getting PG, you can go above 140. I wore a heart rate monitor and let my heart rate get up to 160. I lifted weights all throughout my pregnancy, although I went lighter than I normally do.
Congrats and good luck!

Re: Girls who exercised before becoming pregnant
congrats!!!!
i continued working out with my trainer until i was about 24 weeks (light weight training/walking). then i went on my babymoon and unfortunately never got back into my routine. it shouldnt be a problem, but you should just discuss it with your dr to be sure!!
