Re: When to retire the infant seat--
I personally hate the infant seat so I've got her big girl car seat ready and waiting but when we switch I'm sure I'll find something wrong with that way too. Miranda is only 12&1/2 pounds but I'm sure she'll be close to 26 inches at her next appointment in March. We'll see. If she's not I don't know if I'll switch or not.

Re: When to retire the infant seat--
I think it's one or the other - we retired the seat when Michael was to long for it. His feet were hitting the back seat... I also think that there is a height requirement where the head needs to be a certain amount of inches from the top, but I'm not sure.
I miss the carrier

Re: When to retire the infant seat--
I think I am going to do it in the spring. I know I am stretching it because he is 27 inches and 17 ponds but he still looks comfy in it and I even have the Bundle Me in there. It is just so convinient, esp. with the Polartec cover. He sleeps all the way to my mom's house in the morning and I don't have to take him out when I get there.

Re: When to retire the infant seat--
It's either or but you are supposed to keep them in the infant seat as long as possible since it's the safest.

this is what my son's Dr. told me. Some babies with long legs needs to get out of the infant car seat when they reach teh 26 inches...others can stay in a little longer. My son is 19months old...and still isn't 20lbs...but he is 29 inches long...and most of the length is in his legs so I had to start using the reg car seat when he was about 26 inches long....at about 12 months old.

Re: When to retire the infant seat--
We took my 6 1/2 month old out last week. He's 19 1/2 pounds and 28 1/4". As convenient as it was to keep him in there (b/c I also have a toddler), he was too big for it and getting more and more uncomfortable/cranky.
As for the growth... that should slow down at about 1. My oldest was 28 pounds at 12 months and now he's only 35 pounds at 31 months. My little one has gained 11 1/2 pounds and 7 1/4" in just over 6 months.

Re: When to retire the infant seat--
I was always told to go by the weight (20 lbs.), not by the height because the infant seat is the SAFEST seat for them.

Re: When to retire the infant seat--
so are we really suppose to go by the weight only?..I was wondering this myself..at my sons last appt he is already 24 inches long at 10 weeks old..which would mean the infant seat is no good after 2 more inches??
