Re: Ugghhh---Why can't my dh find a job??!!
I'm sorry- we were there over the summer- dh went on like 40 interviews before he got something.
if you are an alumnus of a college they will look at your resume for free, so if thats the case do that- it made the world of difference for dh's resume.
good luck and hang in there- you have to try and stay as positive as possible for him!

Re: Ugghhh---Why can't my dh find a job??!!
Dh is in finance and lost his job. It took him 6 months to find a new one - all of his colleagues still have yet to find a job. It is scary. He had very few interviews. It was so frustrating. The economy is supposed to be improving. Hopefully things are picking up. g/l

I'm in the same boat - my DH has been laid off since November 2008. I feel like it's just getting ridiculous now.

Re: Ugghhh---Why can't my dh find a job??!!
What field? Maybe we can help?
My DH had a hard time finding a job... he is in a field where people assume there are always openings (maybe before this economy?) but it was a struggle. He actually quit his old job so we could move back to NY (quitting = no unemployment) and it took him 6 months to find something new...
Networking is key - that's how my DH got his current new job.

Re: Ugghhh---Why can't my dh find a job??!!
My DH has been out of work since mid-September...only one real interview and the few jobs he could have taken paid sooooo badly. I'm a SAHM...so we are in a really bad place financially right now.
So I feel your pain.................

My dh hasn't worked a full time, stable job in almost 2 years-- I can't plan anything and live day by day.
that is a long time - has he been hitting all possible contacts? my dh didn't want totell antone he lost his job - a pride thing, buti have a huge family and great friends and once he finally did let people know, they really tried to help. i imagine people know b/c it has been 2 years but the more people know the better. do you work? what field is dh in? maybe someone on this board can help - i am on another board and another poster sent me some openings at her job. g/l

He worked for a year but not fulltime, some weeks only 8 hrs. for the week. He then got a seasonal temp. job and they laid everyone off and plan to rehire but we don't know when. After that he has been trying to find something fulltime but the jobs have not worked out and has been doing odd things. I work which helps out alot but I can't pay all the bills with my salary. My dh is a blue collar worker.
that is really tough - is he getting unemployment benefits? i am not sure what he does but can he get a job in home depot or lowes? my best friend's dad was doing construction and lost his job and couldn't find another and was hired at home depot and receives benefits (health insurance) - i wish i had more ideas - sorry you are going through this -

Re: Ugghhh---Why can't my dh find a job??!!
Its tough out there now - I have been out of work since August 09. If you have facebook, go to Dept of Labor on FB
They answer questions that you post - so much easier than calling or emailing the DOL

No, he is not getting unemployment. He has applied to Home Depot and Lowes for years and nothing. Thanks for your help.

Re: Ugghhh---Why can't my dh find a job??!!
What about Census jobs? They're only temporary but it could help. The last couple of days, I've seen people at the train station with Census applications trying to get people to apply. Good luck!

Re: Ugghhh---Why can't my dh find a job??!!
My DH worked in the Facilities Management / Maintenance Management field if anyone knows of anything.
We live in NJ but he will work in NJ, NYC or even eastern PA.
TIA

I know it's still a long shot but try sites such as socialservice.com.
Often non-profits have needs for maintenance and facility workers.

Re: Ugghhh---Why can't my dh find a job??!!
I've been out of work since Nov. 08. I haven't had one interview. I answered an ad this past week for an office assistant. It was an open house. Well when I got there, it was an employement agency. I thought that I was going to the actual job. It wasn't a total loss because at least another agency has my resume. I'm beyond frustrated. My DH is a mail carrier and hates his job and has threatened to quit because they are running him ragged. At the time of my lay off I was 8 months pregnant, so I've been home with my DD the entire time. I've seen her accomplish her milestones. I'm so ready to go back to work. My MIL has been busting my chops about going back to work. Well if I'm sending resumes out left and right, taking city and state exams for job what the hell else can I do???? Its not my fault that I'm not getting any calls for interviews. Like I said I am beyond frustrated. I would like for someone to point out to me where is it getting any better???

For me it was Oct of 08 - laid off for 1 year. Same thing happened to me. I finally found something this past October, but I hate it so much I am trying to get out of there and find something else..it's not easy. I did have an interview recently that I thought went pretty good. My fingers are crossed.
Fingers are crossed for all of us who are going through these hard times.

Re: Ugghhh---Why can't my dh find a job??!!
Depending upon your area of work, it can be very hard out there right now. I have been looking actively since September and have nada to show for it--no interviews, nothing. It surprised me to be honest, because I never had such a hard time before, and my resume is pretty darn good if I say so myself.
In my field, there just isn't much hiring, and competition is fierce. It sounds as if it's the same for DH. Sorry to hear he's having a hard time, and I hope he gets something soon.
