Your DC should have been retested before the CSE meeting. The results will be what they base their recommendations on. If I remember correctly, there is a test that the teacher preforms or fills out and the same is sent home for the parent to fill out. That will cover all her classroom observations.

My teacher did not come to the meeting.

If you are unhappy with what they are giving you, table the meeting and get in contact with an advocate.

Also, in my limited experience since my DD just entered K, if your DC is in kindergarten and the teacher feels he needs help in any area, they will call a meeting and test them.

The districts care more about what the classroom teacher has to say more than anyone else because the CPSE to CSE meeting determines Kindergarten placement. They care.more about that then what the therapists have to say. For therapies they go by the scores. I hate when the directors come instead of the teacher because they can't really give us a good picture of the child's day to day functioning. I sit in on these meetings for the district I work for as an OT. Also school districts are not equipped to treat children for SI issues. OTs in schools don't see students directly for SI treatment. There needs to be an impact on fine motor, visual motor or visual perceptual skills. They can consult with the classroom staff to offer support and strategies instead.

we are transitioning from CPSE to CSE too this year.

we will have his 2 teachers, his home Parent Trainer/SEIT person and his home Speech therapist either on conference or at the meeting.

we are not sure when they will be retesting him, we are not sure when they are testing him, but the most his current school can do is recommend what they think is appropriate and not in the way as of, we recommend he gets this this and that, its more said in a way where, they will say what is he receiving now in class and feel that the setting is appropriate or not for him.

does your childs school offer a CPSE to CSE transition meeting? FM me i have some great information if you need.. i just went to both meeting AJs school had to offer, yes it was the same meeting but it was extremely helpful.

I have have had 3 separate cpse meetings and my dc teacher Has been on phone conference 2 times and joined in person once! My school district would not consider any services until they spoke to my dc teacher! That is crazy that they wont be attending the meeting! Good luck with this!! Hope it all works out!

You are allowed to have the teacher participate in the meeting, whether in person, or via telephone. My DS is transitioning soon, too and we have had 3 CPSE meetings to date, the classroom teacher has participated in all of them. My DS is in a special ed program, though, and I think it's very unusual that the classroom teacher not participate when there is a special ed teacher involved.

If the director is not allowing the teacher to participate, this is a tough situation for the teacher. Basically, her/his boss is telling that person that he/she is not permitted to participate, even though this is extremely important for your DC. I would try again with the director and ask if the teacher could participate, since she/he has the best day to day understanding of what your child can do. If the director still refuses, I think I would just ask the teacher very specific questions and bring that information to the meeting. I personally would present all of that information at the meeting and make it clear that it came from the teacher. It's important that the team hear what is going on in the classroom and that your DC gets what she/he needs.

I can tell you that our district told someone flat out in an information session that they do not give OT for sensory integration issues. Once they go to K, the services are all about whether or not the delays will affect classroom performance. They may have an OT or special ed teacher help with suggesting ways to address the sensory issues - letting them take breaks, using a fidget toy during class, etc., but they won't give OT just for sensory issues. I think most districts are the same in that regard.
