- UPDATED with DECISON------girls please help me help a friend/ big decision
My friend has POS ( Premature ovarian failure) she is currently going to WEill/ Cornell ( I think CRMI) for treatment.
Miraculosly, this month for the 1st time in 8 months she had a REAL full blown AF!!!!!!
She went to the RE and has done CD3 and a SIS & a uterine sounding.
THe RE says that she has a maturing egg and basically sugests jumping on this with an IUI or an IVF. ( on Saturday)
He also suggests that she start some kind of injectibles.
This is a huge decision, and I am trying to help her but Iam not as well informed about these procedures as some of you are.
Just and FYI, her insurance does not cover these procedures( only the diagnostic)
Which so you suggest she do?
Another question- if she does a cycle of IUI with injectibles does she run a rosk of multiples? She was told that her body may not be able to handle that.
Please help-
Thanks in advance
____________________________ Update- SO my friend has been going for the past couple of days for bloodwork. ( her numbers have been encouraging according to her DR) Tomorrow she is going to do an IUI. (natural )
She is feeling very optimistic about it- I am so happy that this chance has come for her.
I am not sure what the next step will be( hoping this works) as this happened so fast.
Please keep her in your thoughts- her name is Michelle.
Thanks ladies once again for your advice, I will keep you all posted

Re: girls please help me help a friend/ big decision
Well, I dont know if you saw my post, but I have injectables if she needs them.
Also, yes, you do definitely run the risk of multiples on IUI as well as IVF. Just for IUI, depends on how many eggs you produce.
I dont know how expensive IUIs are. But I do know that the hospital got around $150 for the washing and the doctor got around $450 for the IUI from my insurance company. A doctor's office should have a courtesy that if they accept a certian amount for being a participating provider with an insurance company, they should be charging a patient who is paying out of pocket the same rates.
Let me know if you need the drugs!

Re: girls please help me help a friend/ big decision
IUI is definately cheaper, if she hasnt done anything she may want to start there.
IVF is much more $$ but also has much higher success rates.
I also had insurance that doesnt cover it. The clinics def do not charge you what they agree to accept from the insurance companies but they should work with you. And my insurance actually wound up paying for all the office visits, bloodwork and sonos, just not the actual IUI.

Re: girls please help me help a friend/ big decision
I have POF.
From what I understand there is a lower risk of multiples since she will probably not be able to produce many follicles/eggs. My RE told us that our best chance to conceive is IVF. We are starting our 3rd cycle of injectibles with IUI (insurance required this before paying for IVF). and hopefully starting IVF in June.
FM is you have any more questions.

Re: girls please help me help a friend/ big decision
If I were her, I would go ahead with an IUI...with POS her risk of multiples isn't high at all.
Also, I have Menopur and Bravelle if the Dr. gives her either of those and she is welcome to them. I have 5 vials of each.

Re: girls please help me help a friend/ big decision
She could always try natural IVF...no risk of multiples there....It is much cheaper then regular IVF (but more than IUI)..
I am also at Cornell and know that a natural IVF cycle there is about $3,500 vs $15,000 for regular....
Something to think about since IVF has better success rates than IUI...
Good luck to her

Re: girls please help me help a friend/ big decision
Thank you girls, we will know more later. she is waiting on some bloodwork.
I will keep you all posted, I am praying that she , and all of you, will become parents soon.
I had a taste of this process and it pales into comparison to what many of you are dealing with. So, I again apprecaite all your generous opinions and really value your feedback.
Thanks you again, and I will let you know what she decides based upon the results this afternoon.
ETa- I may take some of you up on your fm with further questions. I am so excited that she may have this chance
