1+ year old and getting Changed

Anyone elses 1+ yr old giving them trouble to change them??

DS fights me through the entire diaper changing and clothing changing process. He squirms and tries to get away, kicks, hits, turns all over the palces. I've tried changing him on the sofa, on the bed, on the changing table. Honestly the only place I can somewhat keep control of him is on the changing table and even then it's a battle.

I end up yelling at him and saying "Albert enough already!". I feel horrible when I yell at himChat Icon but i just get so frustrated.

if you do a search on this topic you'll see hundreds of threads! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon we've all gone through it and it sucks! i find having a new toy each time helps and singing songs to distract. it gets a little easier. DS is 20 months and sometimes he gives me a hard time. GL!

Re: 1+ year old and getting Changed

my SIL found a perfect solution, she changes him while he's playing, standing up, but she uses pull ups for diapers.

I love this, because its so much easier to change him this way at the park, since we are outside all day.

I'll admit it....

I let them chew on a diaper or wipe.

It's the only thing that works.

Re: 1+ year old and getting Changed

My DD is 15months and she is becoming a terror at the changing table too. I have to distract her with a different item each time. I have changed her while standing up and that works but it is difficult.

I do the SAME EXACT THING! Sometimes its an empty box from the Desetin. (Not the tube, ofcourse). Whatever works!!!

Then again...he is at the age now where what we call his "Penie" is FASCINATING to him Chat Icon and it serves as a minor distraction! Chat Icon

I hate to say this but I'm glad I'm not alone. I also try to give him the desitin tube or a buidling block or anything I have on hand. Sometimes that doe work but for the most part it's a struggle. The kicker is he DOESN'T do this with DH. Chat Icon Chat Icon .

Re: 1+ year old and getting Changed

My DH just got rid of my changing table since we moved... and every time I change DS I want to beat my DH sensless..

DS peed on the rug the other day after he ran away from me as soon as I got his diaper off. Forget about what it's like when he's got a poopy diaper. Chat Icon The changing table was the only thing that worked because he would stand up but had nowhere to go.

Now 2 days in a row I wound up yelling at my DS to stay still, which of course, made him cry. Chat Icon I can't wait to potty train him.

Re: 1+ year old and getting Changed

You are NOT alone.
DD does all this and screams bloody murder the whole time.
She freaks out. She sounds like she is being attacked. I'm scared the neighbors will call the cops one day.
It's that bad.

I actually sometimes have to have DH come in and help hold her down...I don't have enough arms!

I hand DS something to occupy him - the phone, the remote for his ceiling fan, etc - but, still usually end up struggling with him as he laughs at me and tries to climb off the changing pad on the top of his long dresser.

This weekend, he slinked down from me, still had a bit of poop on him which got all over his outfit, and then peed on the floor. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: 1+ year old and getting Changed

DD just turned 1 and has been doing this for a few months now. Its like we are performing surgery on her.

I try to distract her with toys and books. It works sometimes; other times I just work as fast as I can to get it over with.

UGH...last night was worse...he kept standing up and trying to walk off the changing tableChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon . I finally got him to sit and quickly did the change but it wasn't without a me tell him enough and him crying. then he stood up and hugged me.

I must say it again though I'm glad i'm not alone. It reassures me that this is hopefully just a phase.

thanks ladies!Chat Icon

You are not alone! changing 10 month old DS is IMPOSSIBLE lately.. he flips over, cries, screams..
However, his teacher a daycare tells me he is an ANGEL for his changes there.. lays perfectly still and doesn't make a peep!

I change him standing up the majority of the time. It's actually not that bad.

If I lay him down he freaks out and then the diaper is all over the place!

Dd is the worst at 10 months. I.even let her have a hanger, box of bandaids has been known to work, desitin, let her hold diapers,.sing and dance silly, turn the lights on and off. Whatever works
