Really torn about my 3 year old getting the flu shot.....please help
She had it last year and i planned on her getting it this year but I just read a bunch of stuff online about all the presertvatives that are added and it kind of bothers me. I read about mercury, aluminum, Ethylene Glycol (antifreeze), Phenol (a cancer causing agent), and Formaldehyde....so now her appt is today at 4:30 and I don't know what to do. Any thoughts?

Where did you get your information? You can get thimerisol free flu shots at the Health Department.

I was able to have Julia (who's 3 1/2) get the shot with no mercury in it, its the ones for 6 months to 3 years of age (mercury free) next year she has to get the regular one though.
Whats weird is that my dr told me that she will still be protected, so why not just out the mercury free shots, not stop it at age 3.

Im always torn about the flu shot, since it doesnt neccesarily fight all strans of the flu, however Rj got his this year, as well as last year and the year before.
Rj tends to catch everything, and runs really high scary fevers (105-106) whenever he gets sick- SOOOOO since he is in school and surrounded by germs- I felt it was a good decision to make sure he rec'd it.
Whatever concerns I had I addressed with my ped.
With all vaccinations, the concerns of what might happen w/o the shot always outweigh what could possibly happen with it... If that makes sense.

Nope, well at least not in there office, the Dr said after 3 its a different type of flu shot (glass bottle), and it has mercury in it, I didn't even know my flu shot had mercury in it, untill I asked my Dr, and at first he said no till he read the bottle!
Its so stupid as to why it has to change, just leave the bottles mercury free.
