The grandma seem nice enough. I don't get why the twin didn't call for help. He must know it's wrong and could have called the police or the grandma.
I hope those the parents get what's coming to them in jail. It seemed the twin was petrified of being punished. I don't think he had the capacity to know what they were doing would kill his brother. I actually feel worse for the twin. He sounds like he is already holding guilt about it.

The boys' grandmother, Sue Shotwell, said Jonathan was easy-going and never held a grudge.
"This kid, if you know Jonathan, he could forgive you for no matter what you did," Shotwell said. "You could ground him, and he would say `I love you, Mimi.'"
There are a million ways to describe a child. The words "he was a forgiving child" would never occur to me when describing a child in a normal home. I'm not sure the grandmother was oblivious to the punishments. I was thinking the same thing. What an odd way to describe a 10-year old.
