16 Weeks Pregnant, Baby is Growing Just As It Should, But I'm Not Really Gaining Weight

I just started my 17th week. I have only gained 3 pounds (if that) sometimes scale fluctuates. The Dr says baby is perfect size and all. Should I be concerned?

Background on me: I had weight loss surgery (lap band) almost two years ago. I had lost 70 pounds. I got the fluid out when I got pregnant in Janurary to not have any nutritional restrictions, and I DO EAT. But the scale keeps staying the same for the most part.

I haven't gained any weight either, I've actually lost slightly since my very first appointment. My doctor isn't concerned. She said if there was a drastic weight loss she would be worried. I'll be 20 weeks on Friday!

I was about the same. I gained only 4 lbs at 20 weeks. Now I am up a total of 9 lbs.

If there was a concern the doctor would say something

oh my gosh, do not even WORRY about it!!!!!!! Chat Icon

some women only gain like 8 pounds (i know a few women on here who only gained that....and their babies are PERFECTLY fine and healthy)....

i never gained weight until like, weeks 18 ++, and the bulk of my weight comes around weeks 28-35....and i have gained 22 for this pregnancy (week 38) and gained 25 last pregnancy (i went the full 40 weeks)...and 15-16 of those pounds came during that time....

so dont worry- the weight gain, even if minute, will come...and i am sure your baby is fine and healthy...!

You're not alone

I just had my Level II at 20weeks.

I have gained a TOTAL of 4lbs.

From 12-16 weeks I gained only a half pound

From 16-20 I gained 3 and a half.

And lemme tell ya.. I EAT.

I wasn't thin before. I wasn't fat, I didn't have morning sickness.

Baby's fine, measuring 1lb 13oz. so out of the 4lbs of weight HALF is the baby!

its just normal for me (and you I guess)

I am almost 33 weeks and I have only gained 9lbs. My baby is already measuring big and they are inducing me early because my doctor is concerned he will get too big. Chat Icon

I have lost two pounds at almost 14 weeks. My doctor is not concerned as long as I am eating.

I'm 16 weeks and haven't gained anything. I wouldn't worry especially if your doctor isn't! Chat Icon

I didn't gain at all during my 1st trimester. I had terrible M/S. I started to slowly gain during my 2nd trimester. So far I've gained only 10 lbs. My doctor isnt worried.

If your doctor isn't worried, you shouldn't worry. Chat Icon

At 16 weeks, I was still down 5 lbs (lost in first trimester).... I'm certain your Dr. will voice concerns if the wieght gain is insufficient.......

frankly, it's probably very healthy to not gain too much before week 20.... after all, our beans are still under 1 lb....

I wouldn't worry, I'm almost 21 weeks and have gained about 5 lbs and most of that is recently. I eat and eat. Baby is doing fine.

Don't be worried! I didn't gain much weight when I was pregnant with DS. I gained 8lbs total and most of it towards the end. DS was healthy!!
