1st Bday Party Question - WWYD???
My DD's 1st Bday is 9/19. We don't have a lot of $$$ right now but I want to still do something for her. My Grandmother has a community room in her condo complex (which is where we had Emerson's christening party) and we wanted to have her 1st birthday there too. It's easier then having everyone at the house. I wanted to keep it simple and affordable, it would be a Backyardigans theme (her FAVORITE!!) and I was thinking of just having some apps. (chips and dips) and then having a big pizza party for food. Pizzas, garlic knots, etc. Then a birthday cake, cupcakes, and maybe a candy bar. Do you think it's okay to have a big pizza party for her birthday? Would you be okay going to a bday party and being served pizza and snacks? I just don't think I could afford the $1000 it would cost us for the catering which is what we did for her christening.
If you have any other suggestions I am open to them!! TIA!!!!!!

I think that is a great idea!! If you are feeling weird about it, why don't you spread the word that it will be a pizza party, that way everyone will know already.

Oh I am glad to hear that! My mom thought it would be wrong to invite everyone for pizza but my feeling is it's close family and friends and they are there to celebrate Emme........as long as they are fed it shouldn't matter if it's pizza or a catered event. It's just a kids party. I would be ok being served pizza. Anyway, I am happy to hear it was a success!! Anyone else??? I have to decide because I have to get invites out soon.

Good idea! Maybe I will include it on the invite!! "Please join us for Emerson's Backyardigans Pizza Party".

I think we may do something similar but at the house. I don't want to spend a ton of money on a fancy party.

Re: 1st Bday Party Question - WWYD???
I think pizza is totally fine - people should be there for the birthday girl and not the food
As long as no one leaves hungry you have done your job as hostess.
Another inexpensive option is Chinese - we did it for my brothers HS graduation and you can't believe how much they gave you for so little money! Maybe price that out too...

That's a thought. I just figured pizza is more "universal". You're hard pressed to find someone who won't eat it. With Chinese there is so much choice and people are more picky about it I would think but you're right.....you get a TON of food for the money. I will think about it.

I'd do pizza but would include it on the invite as the PP suggested.
Do you have to pay for the community room? If the cost comes out to more than $14/pp, Chinese is the cheaper option. I agree that pizza is more universal & am struggling with a similar issue myself.

It's a $100 for the community room. It's not much at all. It's nice too, big and bright with tall ceilings. All the tables and chairs are there and a full kitchen right next door to store stuff and prepare anything if necessary.

I was just worried the adults would think it's lame but it is a kids party so I don't think it needs to be fancy.
I can't believe our DD's are almost one either!!! It went soooooo fast. Feels like we were just on the pregnancy board counting down the days.

Re: 1st Bday Party Question - WWYD???
I think pizza is fine - thats the usual fare at a kids party. If you want to dress it up just a little make a tray of baked ziti, a green salad and substitute a hero for a few pies. This way its a little more substantial and still budget friendly.

Re: 1st Bday Party Question - WWYD???
Everyone loves pizza.
Its a kids party, so I dont think anyone should expect a big hoopla, kwim?
I would include the words "Pizza party" on the invite. Keep it casual. I actually like parties like that - less formal.

Re: 1st Bday Party Question - WWYD???
We love pizza parties - who doesn't?? And I personally would not add the expense of pasta and heros -- no need. You don't need the extra expense, and pizza is plenty.
