1st Birthday Questions
When did you start planning your dc 1st birthday?
Did you do a theme? If so, what was it?
Where did you have it?
How many people did you invite?
TIA

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
I started planning about 2 - 3 months prior. I started a bit early only because her birthday is so close to the holidays.
I invited 60 people and had it in a semi-private room at a local restaurant (I'm not in LI)
I didn't do a theme, just pink & white balloons and had Elmo come. She doesn't like TV yet and doesn't really have a character or anything that she loves - I figured I'd do one when she has something she really likes.

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
About 3 months in advance... we had it at a restaurant, unfortunately it was the weekend of the bad ice storm last year so a lot of people didn't make it but we still had a good turn out...
No true theme but I did have sesame balloons and sesame puppet show which the kids loved...
ETA: I probably invited 50 people, maybe more?... I don't remember though...

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
I'm not much help, but I'll answer.
I had something very small at my mom's house. Started planning about a month ahead of time, but there wasn't much to plan. With family, my best friend and her DH and 3 of Steven's friends, I had about 18 people and 4 kids.
He had a baby einstein theme.

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
She turns one in a month. So, i started maybe 1 months ago.
I am doing a theme. She doesnt like anything, but I wanted it to be girly and cute so Im doing a Care Bear theme with Carebear balloons, invites even party favors for the kids.
Im doing it where I had DD's christening but in the smaller room.
I invited maybe only 35-40 people.

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
I started planning a couple of months in advance. I had a theme but didn't over do it....just little touches here and there for it. I did pink flamingos as a theme.
I had it out for a couple of reasons. We were in the process of deciding whether or not to add an addition to our home so it was very possible that the house would have been under construction. We were also thinking of TTC and I didn't want to have to entertain 70+ people in August at my home newly pregnant. I invited about 90 people and had about 70 guests. I have a large family so small gatherings are nearly impossible.

I think ours will be pretty small too. We may have it at my IL's...not too many kids unless MIkayla makes some new friends in the next 3 months

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
I had Katherine's 1st b-day party in our backyard. We had a luau theme in early September and I guess I started planning it about 2 months in advance. Come to think of it, she actually had 2 parties since we had a family one in conjunction with my niece who is only 3 days older.
For Abby's in May, I am going to have it in our yard again. I'm thinking either a Cinco de Mayo theme or a Presidential theme--odd, I know, but Abby was born on Harry Truman's b-day and my DH idolizes Harry Truman I did already check to see if they had paper goods for that sort of a theme since I know it would be difficult.
I would say we invited, geez, 100 people between Katherine's 2 parties that's including kids...MUCH more than I ever wanted!

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
Planned about 3 months in advance. No theme, just pink everything and 1st birthday balloons and signs. Had it at an Italian restaurant in a large room. Invited around 30 adults/10 kids.

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
We're starting to plan it now, ds's bday is in March. We're looking at restaurants with private party rooms.
I don't think we're doing a theme.

Well, I made baked ziti with turkey meat sauce, my mom made sausage and peppers and we had the cake and sweet bread and some cookies for desert. My sister made a salad and we had puffs and cheese its and veggies out for snacks. The idea was to have all things the kids could eat as well. So, no chips, pretzles, etc. We didn't want to have to watch them around the food in case they got something they shouldn't. It turned out great!
Honestly...even that was a little overwhelming for the babies. I can't imagine having one of those big parties...Steven wouldn't know what to do with himself, LOL.
ETS: Also, I still wanted to do it all up, so we put streamers and got balloons. I went to www.celebrateexpress.com and got a sign made and the BE table cloths and things like that. So, it still looked nice and he knew it was his special day.

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
When did you start planning your dc 1st birthday? Probably about 3 months ahead of time
Did you do a theme? If so, what was it? We had a luau. Her invites were a picture of her dressed in a hula outfit.
Where did you have it? We had it in our backyard
How many people did you invite? About 50. We went big for her first and invited family and friends with and without kids. Kept it smaller for her 2nd.

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
We started planning Jacob's first birthday about 2 months before his birthday. His birthday is 11/27...right after Thanksgiving so we wanted to start early. We had it at home and invited 30-40 people. We had a sports theme. We bought everything from Party City. We catered in food from a local Italian restaurant.

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
I started planning it 3-4 months in advance. We rented the village hall in the next town over from us. It's a small place but a beautiful room. DH's family came down from Boston for it so I think we had 35-40 people there.
We have a traditional first Birthday, Humpty Dumpty cake in our family so I went with that theme.

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
I am not into big 1st birthday parties. I think they are GREAT, but it's just not my style. My DD first birthday is actually during the time when my older DD is making her first communion. So we're doing a combined party with 2 different cakes of course. And I am only inviting the family which is about 20 people. I am not a big party person. I like things simple.

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
Started maybe 2-3 weeks before. Just had ILs and a few of our friends over for pizza and cake. After the ILs left and Nate went to bed, we hung out with our friends.
I'm saving the big to do parties for when they can actually remember and enjoy it.

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
I started planning about a month before...I'm a big time procrastinator and hate planning.
I did a princess theme, just a few decorations and balloons. I returned the desert plates and princess cups and used regular ones. It seemed like such a waste of money to me.
We had it at our house, which is not huge but we managed to fit almost 30 people between the kitchen, living room and basement. I sent the kids in the basement
Everything turned out great. We ordered in food.

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
I started planning about 2 months b/f her birthday. Her theme was "monkeys" - Val did great decorations and favors- we got a helium tank from party city and did multi colored balloons. We had a clown/cookie monster from twinkel town- cookie handed out elmo & cookie monster cookies to the kids (got from a bakery in Commack). We also got the moon bounce from twinkel town as well- that was a HUGE hit. we had this at my mother's house and had about 45 people.

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
we started about 3 mths in advance. We invited a little over 100 people and wound up with about 80 or 85. We had it at a hall in Suffolk County and had the food catered in. We did the hugs and stitches 1st bday theme from Party City, a clown came and we also had a DJ to entertain the kids.

Re: 1st Birthday Questions
We are no where near the 1 year mark (dd is 4 months), but when we do have it, it will be smallish and at the house. None of our extended family is near us and we just never did huge birthday parties in my family.
