1st pediatrician appt. yesterday
DD is one week old. She gained 2 oz. bringing her to 7lbs 1 oz and is 1/2 inch so she's 19 1/2 inches tall. Doc said she was perfect and i showed the doc what i pumped - how dumb did i feel thinking it was my colustrum and she said "no that's breast milk" mommy REALLY needs some sleep.
Also, DD has been latching on well so i'm really happy about that. She hasn't had any formula in almost 2 days. My boobs were SOO sore overnight - there is no doubt my milk is in - FINALLY!!! DD slept from 1 am until now so i pumped a little to alleviate - hope thats ok.
Now if ONLY i can get rid of this fluid retention. I'm desperate. My fingers are numb, ankles, feet, legs still swollen etc... i cant take much more

Sounds like everything is going great!! I'm glad your milk is finally in. Pumping to alleviate engorgement is fine, as long as you only pump a little -- you don't want to over-stimulate.

Glad the bf'ing is going well and DD is doing great!
Give yourself some time, the swelling will go down, you are only 1 week PP. 2-3 weeks PP are such a turning point for water weight loss.
Drink your water, it'll help get rid of your swelling
Hang in there

thank you. how much pumping would be enough to alleviate engorgement? or whats considered pumping too much?
Doctor told me not to wake her to eat overnight so basically i didn't express any milk from 10:30 last night and by 4:00 am my books HURT... so i pumped a little since DD was asleep

great news maggie!!
I had fluid rentention after too...and I had NO swelling whatsoever of my ankles while I was pregnant! It should go down in a few days.
I'm so happy for you that BFing is working out!!! Isn't it just a great feeling?? Your boobs will get better too, less sore. And if they go down or feel empty, don't worry there is still milk in there!! (I had this and I freaked!)
