1st time moms: How far are you thinking ahead?

My hubby gives me tolerant and sorta eyebrow lifting looks when I talk about 5 years from now. hah

I have some things I want in place for my child. I never really thought much about before, but now I'm preggers and 9months is flying.. I feel 5 years will be a blur.

I have accepted that my child will be a new yorker but i am not happy with the education here. (personal preference) I am also really missing home (Texas).

I don't want to rent, but I don't want to buy a house I won't stay in or buy a house when it means going bankrupt (which is does for us).

So I have a five year goal to get back to Texas and transfer from my company. I hope to buy a home in Texas and raise my children there. Since we know its a girl, I hope to try for a boy around 36yrs old 3 and a half years or 4 after the first.

I planned the purchase of my truck, which will be paid off next year and long term maintence of it. I planned out how we will reduce our debt before and after the baby arrives to save up for a home, I have even started to think of college funds and goals for certain values to be put aside by certain ages.

Am I really OCD and anal as my hubby thinks i am? hahahaChat Icon

I think it's natural. We talk about the next few years, 5 years down the road, and even 15 years down the road. Doesn't mean all our plans are set in stone, but I think you can't help but think about what you want in the future.

Depends on the subject. Some things we are planning for 15 years away and others we figure out as the time comes.

the only future planning i am doing right now is getting life insurance for myself and DH, and writing out a will. we will start a 529 in a few months as well.

I am a big time planner, i have spreadsheets planning for our retirement! Things in the somewhat near future we are planning for include me staying home for a few years, planning for buying a house/ college/ retirement accounts.
