1st time pet owner and adoption

Hello all, I'm new to the site.

My husband and I want to adopt a dog. Most of the applications ask for a vet for reference. Niether of us has owned a dog before, so we dont have a vet. Does that really lower our chances? Our second choice is going to a breeder, but we would much rather adopt.

I'm not sure about it lowering your chances. But what town do you live in? I'm sure we can offer some good vet references for you to put down on your application.

ITA. And you can interview a vet prior and let them know that you are adopting a dog and would like to become a "patient." Tell them that you want to be able to make an appointment as soon as you adopt (which you should of course do anyway.)
