1st Tooth loss
DS will be 5 next month. Hasn't lost a tooth yet, but I guess in school either a friend lost it or they talked about it recently. He knows the tooth fairy hasn't come yet and he has to loose a tooth. Just wondering how old your LO was when they first lost a tooth and how did they react? My only concern in DS is sensitive to textures and certain changes. When it gets loose do they freak out or are ok? I know he'll be excited for the tooth fairy, but the whole process of it getting loose, falling out and a new feeling of space in the mouth. I know he'll eventually be fine with it obviously. He freaks out and won't let me go by his mouth if he falls and is bleeding. I can't even wipe it or go near his mouth.

Re: 1st Tooth loss
DS lost his first tooth at about 6 1/2. I think the fact that some kids are red shirted really has a large impact when kids see their friends loose teeth in school. So if your DC is in school with a child that is 6 or even 7 they are going to see them loose teeth. My son was in the middle of the pack for lost teeth.

1st Tooth loss
Red shirt is a huge issue.. but we have a Sept 1 cut off here and its strict. So AJ is one of the 'younger ones' with her bday late August. She's over 5 and a half and no loss of tooth :) Her friend across the street has lost 2 nearly 3 now. Her bday is only 4m before AJ's (yep so she's 6). But she lost her first tooth for xmas I believe. Which is around AJ's age about now. I just don't care enough to keep up with 'when'.
I think when is as random as when they were little. AJ got her teeth in late. The doc and dentist all agreed it was better. The idea is to keep her baby teeth as long as they will allow her. That way there is less damage and wear on the adult teeth when they do come in.
I think the act of blooding your mouth and losing a tooth are entirely different. One has that shock of pain and throb of ache the other is a loose tooth that wiggles and feels funny. Generally not that painful unless they mess with it and we ALL messed with loose teeth.
Best of luck to us all, right?

Re: 1st Tooth loss
DD#1- was 4.5 years old DD#2- was just a month or two shy of 5 years old
They both were so excited and couldn't wait to see what the tooth fairy would bring. They are now 6(lost 7 teeth) and 7(lost 11 teeth) and they still get excited with every tooth. Although I believe they know I am the fairy by now
