2 cats + 1 baby

Does anyone have cats and heard of any tips of

1) getting them to accept/get used to a newborn baby

2) Any issues about cat hair in the house and trying to minimize/keep as clean as possible?

Any tips or links anyone has to share would be awesome, thanks

One thing I just learned is to have your DH take one of the diapers back home to your cats so they can get used to the smell before you can come home.

As for cat hair, there's no way of preventing that except for shaving them.

I don't have cats, but a dog (that sheds a ton). I know with dogs they suggest having your husband bring home a baby blanket that the baby used in the hospital for the dog to smell in advance. Maybe do the same for cats? They also suggest that when you first come home you go say hi to the dog alone first and then bring the baby in with your husband. I'm also making sure to put together some of the baby's stuff in advance so she get's used to it. She was all weirded out by the crib and basinett at first, but now she's used to it.

As far as the hair the only thing we do that works is vacuum like crazy and try to make sure she get's brushed.

Re: 2 cats + 1 baby

I have 2 cats and will have 1 baby too!

I have ragdoll cats... which are LONG LONG haired cats. I'm due in July... right during shedding season!!!

We plan on getting the lions cut on my one cat... we've done this a few times to her and I think she likes it overall. The other one gets to keep her fur. other than sticky taping all the cat hair up and vaccuming often, there's not much more you can do to prevent it.

We plan on bringing home a baby blanket or something with the scent of our LO to get the cats used to her before she comes home. I know my cats will be good with her so that's not much of a concern for me.

We're not doing much to get them ready. Once the crib is up, the nursery will be off limits. I am most worried about them getting into things like the pack and play and the swing, etc... things I can't close off or cover.

I think they will be ok with the baby, they are pretty laid back and will probably hide out for a bit anyway. Though maybe adding some catnip to the blanket w/the baby's smell might get them used to it... of course there's no way I'm letting them get that close to the baby anyway, not for awhile.
