2 month old babies.....

Have you ever heard of a 2 month old eating fruits yet???????????

A friend of mine - her daughter is around 12 lbs, and is eating 5oz of milkies every 2 hours, and isn't satiated.... so she started giving her fruits...

Has anyone ever heard of this?

My son was 16 lbs at 10 weeks, he was eating 7 oz every 3 hours and I was told no cereal or anything until 4 months.

Re: 2 month old babies.....

I don't think any DR would recommend fruits/veggies/cereal at 2 months, however some people will do it. It's really all preference I think and what you as the parent are comfortable with.

Re: 2 month old babies.....

i would be VERY careful about the choking/aspiration risk.

i wouldn't do it that early.

why not increase the amt of formula per feed? my DS is 8 weeks and takes 4-6oz every 3-4hrs....sometimes every two. perhaps this DC is going through his 2mth growth spurt? or has this feeding schedule been going on for weeks???

call your ped! perhaps, if desperate, u can add rice to the formula? i'm not a big fan of doing it that way, but if it fills the belly........

Re: 2 month old babies.....

I told her to call her ped...

She puts RC into her evening bottles.... and she says that it doesn't phase her daughter at all....

My dd is 4 1/2 months and the ped. told me on tuesday that I could start fruits. I tried the other night, and I just don't think she's ready. She was gagging. I never heard of 2 months.

Re: 2 month old babies.....

She told me that she called her ped, but she is in the thinking that we were all fed earlier, therefore it's ok to do it with her child....

I don't know... I mean I understand that her baby is hungry, but I would just up the form amount... KWIM?

Never. My was 12 pounds at 4 weeks and I would never give him food of any sorts. My pediatrician would probably freak out. Usually nothing until 4 months. That is very dangerous because of food allergies and the fact that no matter how big the baby's digestive system is still developing.

Re: 2 month old babies.....

aha! busted talking about me...kidding!

its me she's talking about everyone. i didnt give my DD real fruits. i put a little pear (stage 1 food) into her bottle. she loooves it. my mother in law had to do the same thing with my husband when he was a baby. it only goes into her bottle @ night to help her sleep through the night. RC didnt do anything for her. she'd be wide awake after her 10 pm RC bottle. my dd is now drinking 7 oz (which is 1/2 of her weight...which is what the ped said it should be). she eats 7 oz every 4-5 hours. and the ped ok'd me giving her oatmeal cereal because of her severe constipation. everyone morning she gets a little oatmeal cereal in her bottle and by the afternoon she takes her only poop of the day. if we didnt give it to her she could go 3-5 days without pooping. she has sucked pear (stage1) off my finger (and a spoon). she knows how to chew and swallow. i was surprised as to how good she was with a spoon.

in my mind, yes a pediatrician knows best, BUT that pediatrician isnt home with a screaming/hungry kid. spanish people (im puerto rican) give their kids RC at an early age. i actually waited a while, most spanish people (i know) started the kids on RC when they got home from the hospital.

I would be afraid of that for SO many reasons: choking, allergies, etc.

Did she start with cereal first? The earliest I have heard is 3 months.

PS-I have to laugh because I call it "milkies" also! Chat Icon

Re: 2 month old babies.....

Although the info out there is not conclusive, there are some correlations between early feeding and an increased risk of type I diabetes. We are being very careful about what we feed and how early. We are starting with green vegetables, not fruit, for this reason. There is both Type I and Type II diabetes in DH's family.

Re: 2 month old babies.....

we started the RC first. and waited a few days to see if she had any allergic reactions to it (or any other reactions ie constipation, gas, fussiness). we saw that the RC constipated her (rice is a binding food) and so we tried oatmeal cereal, this cleared her right up. this even helped her skin clear up because she was so backed up.

do the doctors in LI allow babies to have water? my doc said my dd could have water to also help with the pooping issue. but most docs say no to water nowadays. my mom said they used to give you water (already in bottles) @ the hospital. my dd LOVES water. she doesnt choke on it. she hasnt choked on anything we've given her (thankfully).

I will say your ped sounds very unusual..

What about allergies to fruit.. I mean she isn't even 3mts yet...

Ok to the ceral but if your giving it just to have her sleep isn't that unfair to her digestive system?
