2 year old and anxiety

My dd is 2 1/2 and she completely freaks out when she sees a bug or a toy dinosaur. She screams and becomes inconsolable it's starting to make me nervous, I don't know how to ease her fears :(

Any advice

Re: 2 year old and anxiety

DS has some anxiety with stuffed animals that sing and dance. He just turned 4 recently and doing so much better.
We used to tell him it's only a toy over and over or shut it off.
He is still a little bad with some things, but getting a lot better with age.
His OT would work with him a lot on working through it.

I do know other kids without sensory issues that get scared of certain things. Just keep it away for now and talk her through it. Maybe get a book on bugs and dinosaur.

DS is the same way...he's almost 4. it's gotten A LOT better. he used to freak out if people wore hats. now he's only still scared of vacuums and bugs. but then again he only lives with a woman so I blame the bug thing on me. :)

Re: 2 year old and anxiety

I think it's a normal phase.
DD is the same way with bugs- to the point we can barely be outside lately.
She is suddenly scared of the dark, scared of her bedroom, scared of cars and trucks, you name it.
I did some reading and they mention that this is the age they start to develop more fears and anxieties because their imaginations are developing at this age.

Re: 2 year old and anxiety

I agree, I think it's a phase. DS is 25 months and he's just recently starting freaking out about bugs outside. He's also scared of the ice cream truck.

I just try to tell him that there's nothing to be scared of and that I am there for him. Hopefully it passes quickly or it's going to be a long summer Chat Icon

My son is the same way. He tells me there are grasshoppers in his room. I spray fabreese and say get out of her grasshoppers and he goes to bed.
